Has anyone used 235 wide tyres on 8.5" rim?

Postby tangcla » Sat Oct 31, 2009 5:45 pm

So I've found that 8.5" wheels are no problems - but has anyone used 235 wide tyres instead of 225s?

I've used 235 tyres on 7.0" wheels with no problem.

How does that change if I'm running it on an 8.5" wheel versus 7"?

What's the offset Clarence?

I have 235/40 KU36s on 18x8.5s with a +46 offset.

Just clears the Billie on the inside and some guard rolling is required to not touch on the outside, but it's worth it.

Other option is get an MY10 with nice big guards ;-)

+50 or +55 I think. No inside rubbing as far as I can tell (took it for a spin and heard nothing) - the rears are VERY close to the lower control arm though (about 4mm clearance)

You're on coilovers, right? You'd have much more inside clearance than me if that's the case.

With those tyres, my camber is a little bit limited but that's okay ... because the wider rubber negates the need somewhat.

-0.75 on the back and -1.25 on the front is what I've settled on and it seems pretty good.

There's about 5mm clearance at the back and a bit more at the front.

I love this setup and would not dream of going back to the pizza cutters.

Just read that properly.

+50 would be touch (maybe not) and go, but if they are +55, I don't see how they could work.

How do you mean - as in hitting the strut perch?
