Hey Guys,

I have been searching around and apparently the OEM 6 speed replacement clutch is pretty highly rated in terms of handling 200awkw~ (apparently the clutch is made by exedy?)

I am only hoping to reach this power figure at the upper limit, but was thinking of getting the Exedy Heavy Duty Cushioned Button Clutch from their sports tuff range. Do i really need a HD exedy clutch or should the OEM clutch suffice at that power level in the not too distant future?

The price difference is $700 for the OEM or $1200~ for the exedy cushioned HD clutch.

Can't say I know who makes the OEM 6sp clutch, but if your up for a replacement I'd be leaning towards the HKS LA clutch... Sooooo much better (+ it's HKS ) & could handle power of 240kw ATW +

Sorry Haz, no idea... From memory, it wasn't actually as expensive as you would think.

Get in contact with Phat GT... He'll be able to sort you out with an HKS fix I'm sure

HKS clutch sounds nice, its more than what i am after though. Apparently many of the wrx guys opt to go 6sp OEM clutch as an upgrade clutch for little cost on cars making 200+ awkw's, they go to the trouble of customising them to fit.

That's due to the fact that the flywheel and friction plate size are larger, giving more bite for the same clamp force.
It'll hold 200atw easy. I'm of the opinion that in many cases an upgraded clutch is more for bragging rights than drivability.

Guys i finally got my clutch sorted. Its an upgraded heavy duty exedy pressure plate from Exedy australia with the factory OEM clutch plate with dual coils. Glad to report the there is no deceleration rattle at all. It already had a single platted flywheel, as the factory dual mass flywheel had already been replaced at one stage, guessing that the flywheel is from an 06 wrx.

In total the parts cost me $990~

i know my was 5 speed but just some reference for you ...

but i would suggest speak to phat man see what other "cheaper" option ...

but these HKS LA clutch well worth the $$$$ ... drive just like a OEM clutch with just bit more feel to it( i drive it everyday with some peak hour traffic) ... and can handle the power ( for me this was very important)

I spoke to phat about it, too late anyway??? i went with the Exedy option in the end

Oh btw because the 6 speed clutches have a lot more surface area, the OEM clutch plates are more than sufficient, a lot the wrx guys run the 6 speed clutch in setups with 250awkw+ with multiple track days and 6,000 rpm launches and not an issue. Goes to show that its a very capable clutch, but matched with a higher rated pressure plate, its a good compromise for a marginally lower cost.
