difference between piggyback and

Postby Brzi » Mon Jun 14, 2010 9:46 am

Hi All.

My first post here.

Can anyone tell me the difference between a piggyback ecu and and simply flashing the existing one?

I'm sure it's been answered a lot of times but am typing on a Blackberry and its a little hard to search the forum on this thing!

Thanks!

I always thought the main difference was if you wanted to revert to stock you just unplugged the piggy back unit. For instance if the car was leased or you were looking to sell it further down the track you could unplug the piggyback unit and resell it. Pulse Racing sell one so if you ring Paul Fisher up he would be able to answer all your questions.

a piggy back ecu is a separate ecu that takes over the controls of the factory ecu and runs its own controls and parameters...

the flashing of the factory ecu is where the controls of the factory ecu are all retained and enhanced to make improvements..

with reflashing you retain al the safety features the factory ecu has and with Subaru's the factory ecu has some excellent features. The only issue with reflashing is you cant take it with you when you sell the car so it can be an expensive exercise.

hope this helps

Hey mate! You should post an intro :)

With the standard ECU's in the Libs being fairly powerful these days, a reflash / retune of the existing ECU can give you some pretty impressive gains, even to a standard car.

From what other's have experienced, piggy backs don't give you the adjustability you want in the Libs (Seems to be different in WRX's are other Subarus), but I know Haltec have released a whole new series which is ment to be the bee's knees... Might be worth looking into...
