INTERCOOLERS - Brands/Recommendations etc

Hey Fellas,

I am looking at different options in terms of intercooling for the GT-B and I'm not sure I can stick with TMIC given the selection available and their effectiveness.

So, I am looking at what options there are for FMIC's to suit the Gen4. I am looking for something that will include a proper mounting plate and would prefer something available off the shelf to suit the Lib, and in BLACK! :)

Would also like to hear from the various members who have already done this mod and what they used/opinions etc!

Cheers,

Jimmy

it might be worth a drive over here and get phat to do a custom sleath set up for you......

I know he has contacts to get custom made cores with high flow end tanks

To be honest, i found that custom was the way to go because none of the kits actually fit right. I am same as you, I want a kit that I can put on myself..

PHAT might have measurements/jig still from the FMIC he did on ARITHS car? Interesting to see what sort of price he would do one for.

Read the points at the bottom of this PERRIN FMIC "KIT" http://www.jscspeed.com/catalog/Subaru/ ... cy_GT.html

Cheaper to get custom made and that way you keep your fog lights and it fits ur turbo.

Any particular brands Clarence?

Right there with ya Daz, after speaking with the guys at ASG here in Perth last night post dyno tune, they are of the opinion that most kits won't fit up "right" first time anyway, but they are urging me to try and find at least a cooler and mounting brace that will suit/fit and then they can modify the piping to suit.

That said, I did get a complete custom kit done for my old GC8 wagon back in the day, and that was reasonably hassle free and did the job! So maybe complete custom is an option as well?

Would be very interested if PHAT did have something he can offer me, even if it is just the cooler(in black) and mounting brace!? Maybe I should send him an email/PM or will he pop onto this thread at some stage?

I've also contacted Kevin at ProcessWest in case he has something he can offer as well...

Tony - do it!

ARITH has a thread on his FMIC install.

It was a GREDDY Cooler and he bought a CUSCO radiator support bar. Then the rest is just bending pipes...sounds easy hey? lol.

Yeah I read through his thread and saw that, but the pipes will need to be modified anyway due to the difference between the Jap 2L and our bunky Aus 2.5L setups!

Would really rather find something that will fit up, or just buy a cooler in a similar size to the Greddy/Hybrid/Whatever suits best and then get the pipework done custom? It seems wasteful to buy in a kit that won't actually fit? Although it depends on how much modification is required.

Also, the ProcessWest Kits IMO are the best layed out in terms of pipes... The Jap stuff often tends to involve changing/relocating batteries and generally has more bends etc?

If the main issue with fitting a ProcessWest kit up is the mounting bar, and all thats required is a brace similar to Jim's Cusco item, that would probably be my preference, obviously pending the cooler size being suitable etc

Have emailed and PM'd Phat to see what he can do to help me out!

Fingers crossed he has a "kit" of some sort he can hook me up with! :D

Not sure how much the custom job was for my avo fmic was a while ago.

Battery in the boot cause of it and got to keep my fog lights.

Unless you are chasing more than 200atw I would just stick to a nice top mount. Anything over is serious $$$ which I have found out. Not too mention going without your car for ages. Found out with a pod filter and fmic only makes about 16atw maybe more with a bigger turbo but that is how much mine made with the stock turbo.

Better off just buying a new skyline.
