I'm puzzled. Can anyone explain?

The fact is most of the better dump pipes for ej25t a custom made, remember Japan did not offer any after market options for the 2.5t due to them still running the ej20t.

Btw the dump pipe referred to was the Phat dump, made of mild steel and ceramic coated both internally and externally, this dump was also fitted with higher spec single cat to ensure no issues with the O2 sensor setting.

Right. Didn't realize it was coated. Doing both sides is overkill isn't it?

NO - I wouldn't suggest so. Perhaps if they were stainless BUT anything that keeps the heat in the pipe and out of the engine bay / underneath of the car has to be a winner for exhaust performance.

Much better than heat tape.

Yeah I guess being non-conductive the heat stays in the gas rather than imparting heat energy onto the steel. I would've thought you'd not really notice an appreciable difference if it was only coated externally unless you were running fairly reasonable boost.

Are you suggesting the conductive properties of mild and stainless steel are noticably different?

Also remember it's all about supply and demand. Any mod for the Gen IV Liberty is going to be more expensive regardless because we just don't have the numbers to produce mod parts en masse, which in turn reduces the price. We will never be able to match prices with a WRX or Gen 1-3 Liberty.

Actually you could probably get a custom made dump pipe from an exhaust shop for less than that, but the quality, especially the flange and opening, will be no where near the quality of a production one. Or in the case of the HiTech one, highly illegal as the wastegate bypasses the cat altogether.

No . . . although I'm not sure either way. The comment was regard to durability with the ceramic coating creating an external/internal barrier on mild steel against the elements/exhaust gases.

Supply and demand. There just aint too many RHD liberty GTs around sadly and the position of the cat is a real bastard too theres a lot more room in a WRX with the same setup.
The Hitech one is only illegal once you go past 7 psi boost so you could always get a remap and wire the wastegate shut and be perfectly legal

Edit: Don't forget Phats ones include adaptors for the stock and 3" exhaust systems which might really save you a lot of hassle

step three happy times

dont stuff around and if you want to play you have to pay imo

I'm pretty sure the phat DP will raise the eye of the local plod with regards to a yellow sticker if ever checked, in WA anyway not sure about the other states.

LOL Joel the plods wouldn't know where to start looking...is that an illegal tint? I think your car is too loud, gets db meter out to measure..yes maybe they give you a yellow but you will then just take it over the pits with an extra hotdog in the centre pipe..problem solved...the cops have actually stopped me on two occasions just for general check...both times no mention of noise or any canary's. Buy the phat dump pipe and enjoy.

LOL - Dave being capable of negotiating his way out of fight half-smashed in a Louisiana Beer & BBQ snake pit makes negotiating with the now prevelant POHM copper in WA an easy task

Agreed buy the dump I've been running the ASG custome car for about 12 months as u know Dave

But buyer beware I guess is the state that I was trying to push lol

just buy a GRB or GH8 WRX/STI Dump pipe..same as the Libertys 07 on... they are mass produced now and made in stainless and cheaper
