Hey all,
Has any one here fitted the MRT exhaust, TBE, and noticed a big change in the exhaust volume.
I like that my car is nice and quite, and would like it to stay that way,
but I would like the power that comes with a TBE and tune, but would like a bit of volume when I hit the go pedal

Yup, that's the price you pay for more performance. The extra boost in power is great, but man, the extra noise that comes along for the ride is quite horrible. Especially when you have to drive family and friends around or if you're after a more 'near stock' sound level.

You should consider adding an additional/bigger resonator or maybe even a mini-muffler to the centre pipe. Another option is to Dynamat the entire car.

Not sure about the MRT tbe, post up the details we might be able to give you a rough idea of what you might inspect in regards to volume.

I currently have a Phat dump pipe ceramic coated, custom 3" mild steel centre pipe with 2 12" straight through resonators and Phat mufflers, these muffler were originally designed for use on V8's, so they have better flow then most canons, but without the extra volume.

On ideal its not loud at all, very close to oem set up, just with deeper rumble.

When driving once your over 3000 to 3500 rpm the car come alive and things get a little louder, as the rumble becomes deeper……. Expect to set off a few car alarms in under ground car parks…

IMO the best way to understand what I am talking about is too meet with a few member and hear it for your self.

Btw there a better options then MRT……….

oh im guessing your asking due to it was offered by S&J ? if you are the system is good i can assure you that, my couzns wrx sti my06 (one before the hatch), has that kit and i reckon its great, when he floors it u can hear it heaps nicely, but when on idle, you can just hear the rumble quitely

What is the MRT dump pipe like? For what I have seen and heard it is a very nice peice of kit.

It's decent enough, but you have to pay a premium for it like every other MRT part/service. Unfortunately it's the only game in town for some folks so they've got no choice.

I got mine in a package exhaust ecu3 wasn't too bad but it sounded like the developed and didn't just chuck a bend here or there but what do I know how
much difference would be better with nothing I reckon planet dying anyway haha

If you want to avoid excess volume (dB) then ensure smaller tip sizes are used and preferably non circular, this will create a range of output frequencies rather than a single set of drone tones. There's also the option of perforations in the exhaust tip which will disturb the airflow enough to also take some of the noise out of it.

Also worth considering how much power you want, you may benefit from just mufflers alone, or even Y and mufflers.

Ultimately volume comes from bigger pipes, you get longer frequencies which equals lots of loud low sounds.

Craig you should hook the guy up with some gutted mufflers. It should be a decent compromise to get a bit of performance increase while still keeping the noise levels to a minimum.

Certainly an option. But any really empty muffler with good airflow will give a similar sound result, an example is Phat's effectively straight through mufflers, not too bad just on the back of a standard exhaust, but certainly loud on a full 3" setup.

Sounds like the need here is for a bit more power and not much noise.

Pending testing, I think i can easily hit the peak of the VF46 with just gutted mufflers as the exhaust change.
