Clearing CEL

Postby sundayDriver » Wed Oct 21, 2009 9:47 pm

How do you clear the CEL without any special tools?

Just disconnect the battry for a minute or two?

I tried 8 restarts in a row and it didn't help.

PS - I've got the 07 2.5T

Thanks.

The restarting sequence only works on minor faults

Has your car been tuned?

Yes, it was tuned a while back. I have the Phat dump pipe, had it on, took it off, had it refitted yesterday at a muffler shop and when I picked up the car, the CEL was on. I figure it just a result of the O2 sensor being off or some pipes being off for a short while so I didn't say anything to the shop.

I want to clear it first and see if it come back (because I don't think it will).

Had it cleared today (reset too maybe). I don't know the exact code number but it was to do with the oxygen sensor. I suspect it was caused during the install and the guys who installed it just didn't clear the code.

Here's another question:

do you have to delete/clear the CEL as a special action? or will resetting the ECU automatically clear it??

reset ECU.
for some faults simply removing the battery doesn't clear it. There are two levels of clearing faults with the proper select monitor, most places don't know that however. Simplest thing to do is to clear the faults with a full reset then see if it comes back

Like you say they probably put the dump pipe in and forgot to hook up the rear 02 sensor. The only thing now is that the car has to relearn a few things after the reset unless the tuner who did your car did it properly. No more than half and hour with normal driving plus some boost
