Don't worry so much about power. You should be more concerned with the differences between before and after than outright "post-mod" numbers, especially when they aren't qualified in any way (mods applied, dyno type, before power figure). The shape of the curve and position of torque, power and boost peaks are also a lot more important than the final power figure.
All that said, provided the chiptorque tune is conservative enough, it won't be a problem for you. If the guys who are selling it to you are providing a custom tune (which is really the best way to go about this sort of thing), then yes, it is a good way to do things.

Hi,
I also considered this product and I think the product itself is a great idea.
Two things about it though
1) You can buy it two ways - either with a generic tune for $1200 odd dollars or have a custom tune which gets very pricey at $1900 or so
2) I think I have some example dyno graphs somewhere of 2.5's they have already done - none of them are anywhere near 180kw without lots of supporting mods
I am not familiar with their tuner so I dont know how that compares to other tuners/products

I am letting them have a go with my 07 Lib STI (manual) next week. They are going to do a report showing:
1. stock power
2. stock with a tune
3. stock with a tune and tb exhaust & CAI
4. stock with a tune, tb exhaust and either front mount or top mount intercooler
Note: turbo back exhaust is only the dump & centre pipe with stock STI mufflers. All products will be AVO bolt on products except XEDE flash.
I will let you know how i go, just waiting on availability of parts from AVO.
Regards,
Daz

Is the "tune" going to be a custom job? I'll be very interested to see how they go

Daz, you'll need different mufflers to get the full benefits from the dump & centre. The STi mufflers flow a bit better than stock, but not a huge amount. Might find the extra flow shortens their life considerably.
Cheers

Custom tune done to suit each mod so they can report and advertise what each bolt-on mod achieves with their ezy flash.
Yeah, i have asked a few people about whether the stock STI mufflers will restrict flow and chiptorque said they will let me know once they get it on the dyno, i would prefer to keep it stock looking/sounding but if it has to be done, it has to be done!

Soz, this has been put off til March (Ages away i know...but with good reason).
Taipan XP are going to use my car as a test for their new exhaust systems and can only sort it out in March. They know that chiptorque have done a few with hitech exhausts so they want to use my car to compare the results. I used them for all my stuff last time and it's worth the wait... plus the discount for being a test pilot.

So... can I ask why you want to go an 'aftermarket' tune and not an OpenECU reflash?

Ezyflash - flashes the ECU in a similar manner to OpenSource anyway.
Stores upto 3 maps and one of which can be your stock map. Can have both a 'generic' tune off the shelf from Chiptorque based on tunes they have done in the past on similarly modified vehicles
Or you can have custom tune but pay $$$

Custom tune is still less than the $1200-1900 he quoted... significantly less. Well under $1K, I was able to get full custom tunes for $650 if people hadn't bailed out...

as Tangla said custom open source flash tune is the way to go imo but the key is getting a tuner who knows Subaru's

As Boxer said, it is pretty similar anyways...if not the same? Except you can reflash the ecu back to stock if need be, not sure you can do that on open source?
Plus they did all the tuning work on my previous lib and my bros forester so they take care of the price for me too

open source flash tune can be returned to stock map no problem, three maps is easy because he have Si-Drive (3 maps). Custom dyno tune will net you the better results than a stock generic tune but heck if the price is right abnd your happy then more power to you.
