Recommend this upgrade to anyone (who has a sloppy gearstick)!!

Ordered assembly from Japanparts, and 4x $40 bushings + 2hrs labour. Not cheap but you shift so so often, it's a major improvement in feel of the car.
But that has a lot to do with my previous shifter felt like throwing a sausage down a hallway when shifting haha.

+1 to Tom Kauf for all the info and feedback.

Hi guys!
I know I'm in a 2.5T post, but I need your help!
I'm looking for a STI Short Shifter for my 04 3.0R Spec B 6MT, French one.
As number parts seems to be the same beetween my car (http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/e ... ft_system/) and 25GT-B(http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/u ... ft_system/), for any years, I'd like to know if ST3501021020 will match my car: with 220.000 kms, shift is a little bit "uncertain"!
Is this STI Short shifter matches all Legacy/Liberty 6MT?
Is this part work for LHR cars?
Regards.
Fred.

tom_kauf wrote:Got the bushings this afternoon - $38.99ea at my local dealer . The parts diagram only shows 2 of them, but I realised afterwards there are actually 4. So I still need another 2.
But I had a quick go and fitting them. Not easy without getting half the shifter assembly out. So I'll leave this until the next time the car is getting work done. They really don't seem like the sort of bushings that would perish easily. They're not like rubber, more a semi-hard plastic. But it's the last set of shifter assembly bushings that I hadn't replaced.

So is yours a very early Gen4, or a the previous shape Gen3? I assume a Gen4, because of the SpecB classification.

I'm pretty sure all 6MT cars use the same STi short shifter (trans is no different between RHD and LHD afaik).. Maybe check with the dealer, but 5MT vs 6MT was the only difference on our cars in Aus. It's definitely worth the upgrade! :D Just a great shift feel without any downsides imo.

Buy yes, check out Peter's great work. The bushes from the dealer are so expensive that even my local dealer was shocked (made a joke about how they must be made of gold lol).
And the STi shifter is $$$ too, so other options are well worth checking out - especially Peter's well engineered solutions.

The Lever for the Liberty 6MT is different to the Lever for the STI 6MT shifter. Compare the images.

The parts around the Reverse Gear Lock-Out Lifter mechanism are different.

The shifter sets need to be replaced as a complete assembly.

Yeah, sorry that's what I meant. Legacy/Liberty TBSTi cars (I don't know what Impreza STis have exactly).

Thanks all!
Sorry, I'm not looking for a short shift, I need to refresh all the bushes.
So as the STI (brand, not car) one comes complete, it will not be so much expensive than changing all my old bushes.
And as it's a short one, it's a bonus!
Is this ST3501021020 part for Legacy/liberty 6MT or for STI (I suppose your talking about WRX or Impreza, I don't know how they are named in Australia!)
I'm not sure to understand everything in yours answers, due to certain lack in my English...
And my car is a gen4 one, JF1BLELN35G00xxxx.
The parts around the reverse are the same than your second pic, called STI one...

We understand that Bushing marked (1) do not come with the STI Short Shifter and need to be purchased additionally.

The parts circled are not all the same. Some parts are different between the Legacy/Liberty 6MT and the STI Short Shifter.
Look at the levers, they are different. As a result some parts are different

So you're telling me that this part ST3501021020 won't fit my car?
And I'd better get yours, Short Shift Adaptor and Gear Shift Rejuvenation Kit?

No, I am saying that you must use the new complete STI assembly.

BillyCorgi wrote: The shifter sets need to be replaced as a complete assembly.

Also, AFAIK, the bushings do not come with the shifter. Forum members have needed to purchase these separately.
Check what you are going to get with your STI shifter kit.

Ok, thanks, now I undestand! (I hope so! :D )
So as I want the ST3501021020, I need to order you yours bushes.
Can you MP your price to France, 07380?
I prefer to give my money to people working for themselves than dealers: here in France, Subaru parts are VERY expensives...

Is that a new or second hand shifter assembly?

The lever is the same design as the Liberty Spec-B 6MT lever?
Strange?
