Ok we have a large number of now free breathing cars its time to consider investigating a good GB for an upgraded clutch.

Mine is great and no sign of slippage but just wont hold on in 5th gear power run on the dyno. I suggest many of you will be in my situation soon if not already.

Can we keep this to suggestions on a replacement to suit 2.5T.

If the rexes are anything to go by, upgrading to a heavy duty clutch is akin to saying goodbye to your gearbox... There are heaps and heaps of threads (and even a sticky post) about this on wrx.com.au forums.

Replacing clutches def has a leg up on rebuilding gearboxes in my books!

Our 6MT is a pretty strong piece of gear but clutch not so much. I look at like a necessary mod that I can get by the wife

Im keen, but I really want to get away from the dual-mass flywheel. I'ld like to switch over the the single mass the WRX uses.

A lot of US guys do this and report good results. Plus the single mass is cheaper and can be machined (unlike the dual crap).

Im not sure exedy make a HD clutch to suit the 08+ wrx. A lot of people on legacygt.com are using ACT clutches. Unfortunately their distributor in Adelaide doesn't keep stock any more. Maybe if we get a list of interested people we could see what else is out there (and talk to phat!). I may be able to source the flywheels a little cheaper as well....

EDIT: Just checked and the link you have is for 2.5l NA. I remember reading somewhere that exedy have a clutch in the making for us but its not going to be ready a for a little while longer. They dont make a WRX clutch (I need to check but im pretty sure they are the same between liberty & wrx, just diff FW).

Might pay to put a thread up in the for sale as a EOI for a group buy?

Guys there are a heap of realy good clutches out there

Eg: light weight flywheel , flywheel bolts , billet hat , high performance organic or cermic clutch plates(s) with a dampered center all starting at $1800 landed (all Japanese high end brands) for the Liberty

most good aftermarket street clutchs are made to be light on the foot and good enough to hold it all together

the 6M/T is almost bullet proof

All idiots who blamed the clutch when the problem was they couldn't drive without abusing their equipment.

i was under the impression that only the NAs with the 5 speed box liberties came with DMFs

Phat's can you perhaps give us a link to specific brand(s) that would suit our cars?

ohh nice topic, i think my clutch is on its way out also as the friction point if at the very top of releasing the clutch..

is that an early indication?

im just curious as to why you need a new clutch so soon..

how many kms have you done

im presuming you dont abuse your clutch or slip it every launch & your not running
extremely high kw's numbers.

when it was on the dyno did it stink afterwards... perhaps do the run in 4th and avoid 5th

on the road does it slip in 5th, could it be the dyno ?

I have done 32000 kms and I am pushing the limits in terms what it will handle. I dont need one now but would like to upgrade just the same.

For the record my clutch did not stink when dynoed in 5th gear but it just would not hold at the top end for tuning. Yes I could stick with the stock clutch but I like to mod my car. Thus the thread. When I hear guys talking about 200 kw atw with our cars then I am fairly confident that a few clutches will go unless these cars are just show cars and not being driven hard. I have plans for mine that include the short track, maybe a couple of 1/4 miles in the spring. I will also be entering it for a Perth largest car show in January - Motorvation. With a bit of luck I will get accepted. The show includes driving events which I hope to be in as well. I will need a new clutch this year
