So I have fitted a 3inch exhaust and had a ECUtek tune done...while it is an improvement over stock it's still a long way off the old car that did low 12's standing on it's head.
So what turbo options are there for MY08 TBSTi? I want to retain the top mount, although it will be upgraded to a hyperflow one at this stage.
So I am looking for bolt on turbo not huge somewhere in the vf35-vf22 size to suit MY08.
Any thoughts and experiences?? Would love to stay IHI but can't seem to find direct bolt on options.
Opinions please

I probably would've gotten a new TMIC before you got the tune done
Assuming you have upgrading the intake already - Panel filter / pod?
Best to have all the other bits & pieces done before you start looking into turbo upgrades so you can see the full potencial of the turbo
I believe the VF52 (Used on the current WRX STI) is a bolt on option for the EJ25T.

sorry I think you missed what I was on about
THe car has been tuned
I will be doing the intake at the same time as the I/C(not purchased yet) and turbo and it WILL be retuned.
What I am looking for is a good upgrade to the turbo to package in all at the same time. I am not one to do things half arsed, I will upgrade fuel pumps and all ancillaries just looking for some feedback on bigger turbos as the std one really loses efficiency fast after 16psi.
I am just new to later generation subaru's as the last one was a RS lib that I had for 14 years so I knew exactly what I needed for that and got it.
Thanks I will look into a 52 b ut surely their are more options???
Forgot to point out the tuning cost is not really an issue now that I have paid for the ECUtek licence part

AVO make a few, not cheap though.
Also PDX make a BB one, the 330. Check out legacygt.com (usa site) for some more info.

I know Power Enterprise made a bolt-on turbo for the 2.0T, not sure about the 2.5T though.
AVO is a fairly big player with the Legacy turbo bolt-ons. Several sizes available, and you can get their intercooler and fuel pump too.

Guess depends how much power you're looking for. In order to help the guys offer advice, maybe outline what you're looking to achieve.
Cheers

What sort of power are you making now?

VF 52 if you want a straight bolt on snail and as Jimmy said AVO 500 if you want to run in the 12's. Bigger TMIC will help heaps and should def be your next mod if you are chasing bigger kw #'s. Stock VF46 is maxed out around 175 kw and VF52 will get you close 200 kw based on owners in the USA who have done this mod.

thinking about the VF52 because 200 will be enough for now (yeah right) honestly I want the car to run mid to high 12 sec qtrs. The current state is around 170 odd kw atw (mainline Dyno) and well seeing as I have only just passed 3500km the engine is still loosening up in my mind. I am sure that the VF52 if it is sized about the same as a VF35 it will be good for 200+ atw.
I don't want to go down the route of turning this car into an undrivable pig like the old car... great on full noise but a pig the rest of the time. hence I am not looking for a noisy intake or stripping the motor and putting in stronger internals, closing the block etc
Looking for nice reliable power with a reasonable kick in the pants.
THe AVO 400?? 450? or are starting to talk about reasonable lag with these on the 2.5?
Looking at the dyno graph for the VF52 it is running out of puff by 5k and I would prefer something that pulls to 6-6500rpm

Hey scary, you sound like me (to a certain extent) in that you've come from a fast car and are pretty dissapointed by the Liberty GT-B performance.
My personal experience and those of others that have done some real level of performance mods on these cars seems to point to the AVO420 or AVO450 turbo's which give an excellent ballance of power and daily drivability.
You'll easily nett yourself 200+ ATW whilst preserving good spools and response speed of the turbo. You'll need the usual set of bolt on ancilliaries to support the turbo and power levels but at this level, you're still pretty safe on the internals.
Not a fan of ECUTEK but now that you're locked into that solution, you'll be possibly hamstrung by your choice. There's an AVO reseller in Perth that will be able to take all knowledge learned from Victorian and Japanese Lib builds and apply them directly to your car.
Geeze, that sounds like a sales pitch. :/ Ah well, give em a buzz.

This is a good read. A turbo upgrade is something a few of us would consider later on down the track.
Hmmm alot of talk about the VF52... bolt on options are so simple and too easy to ignore.
Will be checking this post for sure.

im sure PHAT GT posted that he has done a 2.5t and it made 265kw i would suggest you get in contact with him
i found it it wasnt 265 it was 250kw +
this is the turbo he used
GT 3071R with 3" intake front housing a HKS rear housing T28 flange all mounted in the factory position (rated around the 500+ hp mark)

Cheers for the feedback,
As far as ECUtek it seems like a good product that as usual comes downm to the tuner not the software. the previous car ran Autronic and I haven't ruled out a SM4 will knock board yet but it just doesn't require it at this stage. I will look into the AVO.
Without me having to go searching does anyone know what injectors the 2.5's run?
