HKS Panel Filter Install

Postby Moi » Fri Feb 13, 2009 1:36 am

Apologies if this has already been covered before but I couldn't find anything after a quick search. Cos I don't read Japanese I thought I'd better confirm with others who have already installed this filter.

The dense hard layer faces the intake side (unfiltered air) and the less dense soft sponge is at the rear towards the MAF sensor?

This pic seems to indicate that the above assumption is correct but it just seems so counter intuitive to me

Would've been so much easier if they had coloured the sides differently :)

Cheers

Dumbass question time.. can anyone remember which end of the hks filter points towards the intake (ie. unfiltered air) is it the coarse, dense foam? or the more spongy foam?

the tighter grade foam towards the AFM and the corse foam towards the front of the car

IF you reverse the filter make sure you clean it very thoroughly before refitting. The last thing you want is for the engine to suck in all of the crap the filter had previously stopped

Haven't had the HKS panel filter myself... But isn't the frame molded in which case it only fits correctly in one direction?

That's what my old Uni Filter was like :P

Yes but you take it out of the frame to clean it
I was told to rinse in a bit of soapy water and overnite dry

So basically for those who haven't opened the frame, if there is only 1 way to fit the frame then it's all good and they can tell us which side is facing the unfiltered air?

I'm sorry if this is causing confusion, it's just that the diagram had me stumped. Can't even get a Babelfish translation cos the Japanese is in a image file.

I must be reading the diagram incorrectly

eBay - there was a link in this forum or the other Liberty forum that someone else posted. Just do a search on eBay - seller was from NZ if I remember correctly.
