Shifter not going in all the way

Postby birch_security » Tue Feb 03, 2009 7:21 pm

Hi,

Just a quick message to see if anyone had issues with the shifter not being able to go all the way when puting it into 2nd, 4th and 6th gear?

So i had that problem the other day, with a second hand MY07 GT-B that had done 25K.

Was i surprised when i pulled off the shifter cover and found nearly $30 in coins in the shifter. lol... I'm still pulling the coins out as they keep dropping in there.

It appears when you place loose change into the ash tray near the shifter, and once you close it the coins fall through near the cigarrette lighter down towards the shifter.

So at this stage dont know if that will fix the problem or if i will have to get a new shifter or something. Either way was planning on getting an STi short shifter.

Sounds like syncro's... But it's weird that it's doing it in higher gears :P

Synchro wont stop you slecting the gear all the way - just crunches doing so as the dogs hit one another :)

Bent selector forks or end float on the lay shafts can cause it

It does allow me to select the gears, however the shifter feels almost the same as a short shifter when puting it into the 2nd, 4th and 6th. Also it doesnt do it all the time.

Now that i got most of the coins out it seems to be working better, but i'm kust wondering if the coins damaged anything.

just take the shift boot and rubber cover off and you'll see if there's anything damaged
