Has anybody done their own change ? Any issues, and what did you use please? Genuine Suby stuff?

Look for bulging hoses when the car is up to temp.
Replace if bulging.

Yep I use oem coolant or if aftermarket concentrate, the same colour.
My my07 has always had green coolant, others use blue.

The correct bleed process is important.

Yep indeed an incomplete coolant bleed will cause issues.

Luckily for me I made a note on the correct procedure.

Bleed coolant

Check that the cooling system has been bled properly:

Raise front of car on slope or ramps.

Jam a funnel into the turbo coolant tank, (or radiator for n/a cars) support it with a wire hook hanging from bonnet, fill up funnel with coolant.

(I use 2 SCA funnels, the inexpensive two piece type, one unit complete, and the flexible section of the second jammed into the first for extra length/volume, but one will do the job)

Better still get a proper jam funnel, I found that on our 2.5i the radiator core meant there’s only a short amount of jam depth available, and I had to convert my sca funnel to jam better with trimming the end and inserting a short piece of garden hose taped in the end.

Idle car with heater on full blast.

Get up to temperature and massage top hose, then rev engine.

Repeat till no bubbles in funnel.

Remove funnel, replace cap and wash off excess coolant.

Take your time and be patient, use a welding glove , rag or oven mitt to massage the upper hose as the coolant comes up to temperature.

Otherwise a pressure bleeder is a good tool to have for the job.

Thanks Benny. Does the undertray need to come off to drain it properly? Are there drains on the 2 blocks, or will the rad drain do the job?

I just used the radiator bung, as I was replacing the hoses last time, the under tray came off anyway.
But I don’t think it’s a requirement otherwise.
Of course the procedures are in your FSM.
