Clutch/Duel Mass Flywheel(?) noise

Postby Wellsie » Wed Sep 18, 2019 12:16 am

Hey guys, have picked up a noise in my Liberty. I believe its in the gearbox/clutch/Duel Mass Flywheel area, leaning towards an impending flywheel failure. At this stage its on the frequent side of intermittent, happens on take off in first gear or reverse and only sometimes when downshifting 2-1, and its a groaning/grinding type noise. Would that type of noise be an indication of flywheel failure? Im relatively new to Subaru and still learning the quirks. I have a short video of it, which i can upload once I work out how lol

Thanks

The dual mass FW in my 2003 forester just squeaked all the time at idle and was annoying as shit.

Does your clutch shudder at all?

Nope, no shudder or slip. Just the noise

no effect on performance, just annoying

when your clutch dies, swap out the flywheel as well to a solid one. has to be done same times as the clutch as it's not interchangeable.

Yeah, thats kind of what I thought. When it dies, ill just throw a solid flywheel and clutch kit at it. As I said doesnt have much of an effect of the performance, its just annoying as shit.

Any recommendations on replacement kits?

Are you going to do it yourself or get a Subaru specialist tot do it?

I can recommend Boxer Service in Brendale, they took care of my 2003 XS for 10 years.
They will drop you at the Brendale Train Stn and pick you up when your car is ready, they also have 2 loan cars if you book in early enough.
