!!HELP!! Engine has poor performance after timing service.

Postby rocksy85 » Tue Sep 04, 2018 5:43 pm

2010 lib gt 65000 Kml’s. Took for a timing service. I get it back and it was coughing, back firing, jerking ectoderm I have it back to him. He then took it to another place to diagnose it after the first mechanic did extra checks to see if he broke anything. The 2nd mechanic said first it was the throttle body faulty, replaced that and it wasn’t the issue. Pulled of the Maf sensor and I can actually drive the car to about 80% of what it should drive at. I have had the car off the road for 5 weeks and counting and no mechanic has any idea what is happening. To me it’s something to do with airflow. It’s over fueling, no one wants to take any responsibilityship and saying it’s probably the tune Matt did. I doubt this very much. Does anyone know where Matt is at the moment so I can give him a call. He should be able to plug a computer in and check in a minute!!!
All help appreciated thanks

When u say timing service, do you mean they replaced the timing belt? Perhaps they f#cked it and it's out. As in, they did not align the timing marks properly. If it was driving fine beforehand and now not, then can't be the tune. I friggen hate workshops. Most are dodgy as f*ck !!!.

Apparently the timing is 100% checked by 2 mechanics

The one time my gen4 GT backfired under boost was self diagnosed after Matt’s advice to look for a boost/vac leak in the inlet tract.
After a careful look over, I found a small hose had popped off the intake mani on one of the passenger side runners.
Iirc its the manifold reference port for the fuel purge solenoid or the ebcs.
So a visual check may suffice, otherwise use some type of smoke (with a strong torch) or detergent bubble spray to spot leaks.
Your leak, if any, could be anywhere between the maf and inlet mani, quite a few joins along the way.
There are diagrams of the piping available here and elsewhere.

That’s USDM/prefl specific so find the same diagram in your FSM, diy link in my signature below...

Thanks, I’ll have a inspection of that diagram, is it much different from the gen v as the turbo is down the bottom near the radiator support

Yep all vac n boost lines as well as fuel purge, boost control, blowoff valve etc.
Also check the FSM timing belt procedure to see what systems may be affected by works during.

The car ran well when it went in and didn't when it came out, they need to rectify their mistake, it is unlikely to be something else coincidental.
