Seized Water Pump @ 65,000kms

I've got a 2008 Liberty Gt Spec B with approx 65,000km. My water pump seized on the weekend and in turn fucked the timing belt, luckily it did not snap. Just wondering how is it possible that the pump seized at ONLY 65,000?? And is there anything worth upgrading while doing the timing belt/water pump? Car is currently at the mechanics and im sourcing genuine parts from my dealership. All up Timing Belt Kit, Water Pump, Thermostat and gaskets cost me around $650.

Thats a negative. I bought the car late 2016 and the log book according to the time factor is not the best. But i asked my mechanic and he said it's not that much a big deal. But oh well, at least the belt didn't snap.

Subaru recommends service your car by time or KMs depending which one it comes to first, assuming your car didn't get that service..

Your timing belt and water pump is 4 years over due

correct me if im wrong

Exactly, despite the fact it's done less kms and less heat cycles it's still been sitting in (possibly) old coolant 24/7.

It's a consumable item.

As for upgrade parts you'd get the cast impeller water pump & eg ati crank damper...

I dont believe the water pump is a service item - mine was NOT done at the 125k service. All the fluid changes have been done per the book though.

Not doing the pump when you do the timing belt is a bit silly since you're already right there.

Sure I also believe the pump should last longer , but why take the risk if you're paying for labour.

If it's a diy job then I can understand.

I told The people who did my 125k service to do the pump, and they said if its not weeping, its not worth touching. They said it was rare for pumps to go, even at that mileage.
