Are the turbos from USDM vehicles a straight swap for our ADM's?

As in, there's no housing or cover angle changes etc for steering columns etc?

Many thanks.

Which turbo do you have in mind?

The stock turbo from a USDM legacy?

Some AUDM WRXs got the VF52 as well.

And yes, they're a bolt-on (with appropriate tune) option. Be aware though that there are plenty of other bolt-on options as well. some of which may suit you better than the VF52, depending on what your goals are.

Bang for buck though, is there anything better than a VF52 for the 2.5l libs?

If you're happy to pick up a low km used one from a WRX owner who's upgraded, probably not.

New, there are other options out there - you'll pay $1500+ for a new VF52, there are other options that are cheaper. Are they better? Hard to say, the VF52 does have OEM build quality going for it (that can be both a positive and a negative).

Thanks Rob, yeah I was thinking more on the terms of a decent second hand unit. But yeah new for new, I would be looking at other makes for that sort of coin.

To provide some clarity on the VF52 - it spools up a little later than the stock VF46 (a few hundred RPM once tuned), but doesn't run out of puff at the top end the way the VF46 does (so it pulls harder to the redline).

Overall, it's a little laggier, but must stronger once it's boosting, and it holds boost right to the rev-limiter. There are ways to have it boosting earlier (including E85).

I like the sound of that. Hence my leanings toward a decent second hand VF52 unit

Agree with Manaz's comments, it's all been done many times before.

The VF52 is the best bang for buck upgrade if you can get a cheap 2nd hand one, or if you spend around $1000 get a new Kinugawa 18g, or if you can afford to spend $2200 get a new ball bearing AVO 380/450 etc whatever tickles your fancy.

The more expensive options will be able to take you a bit further in terms of power but on a stock engine I'm slightly more comfortable with the OEM option. P.S Get the wastegate on the VF52 ported BEFORE you install it and find out it boost creeps to 22.5psi

I'm happy with the VF52 for now and leaving it like that until the engine decides to cark it. *touch wood*

Thanks James. I have never heard of the boost creep thing you mentioned if the wastegate was ported. What is that about?

Any of you know the wheel specs for a stock 52, inducer and exducers for comp and turbine?
