Possible Purchase - 06 MY07 Liberty GT Spec.B

Postby JoshLib » Fri Jun 17, 2016 4:14 am

Hi Guys,

My name is Josh and I'm from Perth. I have been looking at the 06-09 Spec B Libertys for a while now and would like to know what you think about the car below:

http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/detai ... D-12867138

My major concern is that it has done over 188000kms. The dealer has offered to replace the clutch (its slipping), replace the brakes, replace the timing belt and the head gasket. It smelt like burning oil when i drove it and they said it was due to the minor oil leak from the head gasket (concerning). Is this expected for a car that has done this many kms? Also what are other things that I should look out for before buying a car of this age?

Thanks in advance,

Josh

100% not worth the hassle. they'll do a bodgy job & you'll end up paying for it all.

I see, thank you very much guys! I'll have a look at a few others then. What are the things I should be looking of for in these cars?

The dealer I was purchasing from is a Subaru dealer, doe this make the decision any different?

Thanks for your quick responses!

Oil smell might be rocker cover gasket or 1/2 moon, drivers side.
Or same side cv boot split.
Or if rear main seal/AOS, they can do it same time as clutch.
You'd want to log n LV it to see how the tune is treating the car IMHO.
Could be a good car if all work is done properly. It will also be due for new ocvs or at least swap sides.

Eg Jim Berry clutch, solid LCA's, Shockworks or MCA's, upgrade pump, 3port, ThrottleHappy tune and 3" turbo back zorst: awesome!

Thanks for your advice mate! I am not experienced at all with a spanner so all of this would have to be done at a shop and Im just worried that a lot more things will be due to break at this mileage. Sorry for my lack of knowledge but what do you mean log n LV?

Is the fact that its a Subaru dealer (Osbourne Park in WA) a good thing or does it make no difference?

Cheers

Read my tune FAQ link in my sig, it's relevant info for prospective postfl GT owners...
Subaru service can be good but they can be ignorant of some issues eg failing OCV's.
Use the google link in my sig to search keywords with less than 5 characters eg ocv fail...

Keep the questions coming if you can't jfgi...:)

I had a look at this Liberty for a friend, cosmetically it has heaps of
Imperfections where it looks like paint less dent removal was attempted without heating the paint up, headlight washer cover missing

Hole in drivers side carpet, clutch was slipping badly but that was known before test driving

Brakes felt shit but aside from that it was okay, but I'd suggest to find something cleaner and lower kms or better maintained

Just my $0.02
