Buying Interstate from WA

Postby MyFutureLiberty » Mon Jun 13, 2016 11:32 pm

Hi Guys,

Hoping some of the WA members can help me out on this one.

I'm looking at getting a post facelift gen IV GT-B or TbSTI and given the limited stock in WA I'll probably have to go interstate.

I'm wondering what I need to avoid or look out for when attempting to pass it over the pits as I know they can be pretty strict on sportier cars.

Obviously not too loud or too low but would something like coil overs set at max height and just swapped rear mufflers likely pass?

Is there an emissions test to do? if so obviously avoid aftermarket down pipes unless catted.

What do I need to watch out for?

Apart from that this appears to be the general list of things to check:

"Exterior:
Subaru blue paint across all nuts on the radiator support panel to mark they're original and haven't been tampered/repaired.
Same as above for the engine bay.
Spare wheel well for dodgy welding etc for repairs

Engine:
Excessive Noise
Oil colour
Coolant in the top reservoir for any milky signs.
Check all the spots and nuts and bolts where you'd likely to have a car modded and then returned to stock for sale.
TMIC on the turbo side for nuts worn.
Holes or slits in the firewall grommets for signs of extra gauges etc.
Replaced oil hardline to turbo

Get the car warmed up and then do some slow full lock turns to check the centre diff for binding. Also good for CVs.
Check for oil around the turbo, weeps or greasy hoses etc. Or even coolant leaks in that area.
A trimmed heat shield or no heatshield around the dump area.
Belts should be checked as normal.
Check all hoses
etc"

Thanks for any info!

Somethings I'd look for as well is having all 4 of the same tyres, not mix and matched. Show previous owner cares about the car (better on centre diff having all four at even tread as opposed to half worn half new etc)

But yea these cars aren't easy to find in WA, especially in manual
