My MY07 2.5i just went in for a check-up due to some interesting noises / smoke from the engine this morning... I have been considering an MY16 purchase, but with my current work wheels potentially needing some serious engine work I'm toying with the idea of throwing a re-manufactured / re-conditioned EJ255 into her and sticking to the original plan of just working her over.

So, a question for my Melbourne comrades - where do you go for engines down here / who do you trust to do the work on your precious Liberty?

The 'ol girl is currently in at the Mechanic to check on the damage while I'm at work today, so it may be I can get away with minor repairs for now, but I thought I'd do a bit of asking around about other options as well!

Just to be clear - your engine is an EJ253. EJ255 is a turbo engine

I know . But figured if I am going to go to the trouble of swapping out an engine, might be time to do more then just replace what's there .

Looks like it may have been a false alarm though - compression test is good and no further leaks... doesn't explain what the noise was though! If she holds together okay for another 2,500km I'll get my mechanic to take a more in-depth look before I do anything more with it.
