Where to service in Melbourne?

I have a 2007 GT B Spec coming up to its 125k service - I thought about taking it to Subaru docklands but I'm not too keen on throwing my money down the drain, especially since they've quoted approx. $1k (not sure whether this is capped). I've only had the car for a year and took it to my local mechanic for its first minor service, but would rather take it to a specialist given that 125k is a major service.

Can anyone share some reliable alternatives to the dealerships in Melbourne, preferably northern suburbs or inner western/eastern suburbs? What should I expect to pay for a major service? Any help would be great!

Hey mate,
I and quite a few others on here use Lucas Automotive in Moorabbin. Haven't had any issues and they are a specialist.
As far as price goes I think I paid around $1100 for the 125k service. Subaru has introduced capped price so check their website
for a ballpark on each service interval. As most specialists I'd think would be similar.

Get conformation for what you are going to receive for whatever money is quoted.
125 thousand kays?
Timing Belt? Idler Pulleys? Tensioner? Water Pump?
What condition is the clutch in? (if it is a manual).
What other fluids are going to be replaced?

No idea mate, it's an auto 2.5ltr turbo, that's about all I know... Hoping that the mechanic is honest and checks all of that.

A lot of people have mentioned Lucas in Moorabin and Cromwood in Burwood, but they are quite far away for me.

Has anyone heard of or used MSC in Clifton Hill? From what I've read they seem pretty good, but aren't as recommend as the others.

If not MSC i might have to make the trip to burwood just to be safe.

Ended up servicing at my local Ultratune - seemed like the only place nearby which has been well recommended. The guys there were actually extremely helpful and explained everything in good detail and were very transparent. Only down side was price - got quoted approx. 1200 originally but ended up paying 1450. Going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one and although it cost me an arm I'm content that the major service is out of the way and hopefully won't have any issues going forward.

Could've gone to Subaru docklands for $1050 which they say is capped but given the feedback on here and in general, it was worth the extra going to a local mechanic.

They replaced the entire timing belt kit (belt, tensioner idler pulleys), all fluids, oil filter, petrol filter and adjusted something with the suspension as they heard a knock.
