Oil filter for 2.5T

Postby kiwigene » Tue Dec 22, 2015 12:33 pm

Found a brand new unopened z495 oil filter in my garage that I must have bought for my Impretzel RS (2.5 NA)
Ok to use instead of z436 in the 2.5 GT?
Are they interchangeable? What are the differences?

Hi there Gene,

Z495 is 82mm diameter x 76 high x 63mm seal x M20-x1.5 thread
Z436 is 69.5mm diameter x 66 high x 64mm seal x M20-x1.5 thread
Their mounting faces will comfortably interchange.

However, depending upon the relative layout of the oil cooler and the exhaust manifold, the larger diameter Z495 may foul the exhaust?
I just do not know on a turbo layout?

I do know on young Michael's car (2.5i N/A without oil cooler) that the Z495 is too large diameter wise to comfortably fit through the space within the exhaust manifold.
(Or, I would not be game to use a Z495 on the engine, which ever is applicable)

Ah, ok, thanks Peter. Looks like it probably won't fit then - as I know the z436 is already quite a pain to get on/off as it's a tight squeeze.
Cardboard boxes they come in are the same size though, go figure...

Just need to find someone who wants z495 (Genuine Subaru OEM filter) and get them to buy me a z436 (also Genuine Subaru OEM filter, of course) and do a swap :)

FWIW...lots of Mazda spec filters also fit Subys....Z436 is called up for 1.8 MX5. Also worth looking at are:-
Z411, dia 69.5, height 86 (+20 on 436), seal dia 64.
Z150, dia 81, height 141, seal 64. Probably too big on dia, not sure about height.
Z79A, dia 82, height 76, seal 63.
All are same thread - M20x1.5
Z411 looks good from a volume point of view - more filter media area cant be bad.
