Sounds good, seems to be something carried over from their EVO development.
Any way to talk with one of those owners about reliability etc ?

Found a few posts on wrx.com.au - seems to be very similar to the 3076r but comes on full boost a bit earlier, around 3200rpm.

Iirc Alec from gotitrex is a big fan of these after extensive testing on their dyno.

They also have an ATP "Silver" which is the exact same turbo as the gold as far as internals go, but has a slightly smaller housing (for easier fitment) with a 53mm inducer instead of a 55mm inducer... and takes the standard Kobe silicon intake rather than a 3" AVO intake. If comparing, probably slightly closer to the GTX3071... I'm thinking this is the one for me.

This is just my first impressions:

-Special intro price: $2200 + gst.. seems a bit pricey..
-Complete lack of helpful information on at least the supplied website (not sure if there is another). Full of rubbish marketing, shocking layout, very little specifications or proven facts. (may not be major, but enough to turn me away)
- Judging by the comments above, its similar in size to GT 3076? If your going for a turbo this size (pretty serious for an EJ25) i would atleast want to go for an EWG.
-Why not just go for something more tried and tested, especially as atleast on first impressions, doesnt seem to be that good of a bargain.

Kyp knows his turbos, he's been building them for decades and with proven results too. He's also a Garrett dealer.

It's essentially a custom made Garrett with some cool bits like the ceramic ball bearings being a nice touch.

IMO the GOLD:

Pros:
Quality turbo
Makes good power

Cons:
Brand new - $$$$
Will the new engine handle 300kw?
Giving up bottom end on a street car for more top end (depending on your goals)? I'd choose it...if your engine holds.
Will the new turbo really fix the phantom knock?

And on the Silver - although great turbo, it's very close to what you already have on the car, Kim. If the turbo isn't the cause of the 'knock' - I doubt the small performance increase, would be worth all the $$ and the trouble.

Cons: shitty mitsu rear housing. Honestly, spend that little more and get a proper 3076.

This

Bad housing = bad backpressure and flow, equaling more detonation prone

Is your td05 stuffed? Why not run it in on that and decide about an upgrade later?

Yep pretty sure the td05 is the cause of phantom knock. Still ocurring on new engine :/

Rear housing looks to be a Garret...

Visually looks quite a lot larger than the TD05-18g too...

Due to the awesomeness of the site I cannot find any picks of the exhaust housing, but it wont be a Garrett. It will be like all the bolt on ones that uses a mistu deal. Even the Precision one does.

I have one of his turbos that's bigger than the gold, kyp calls it the 'are you there' from what he has told me its a 60-1 comp wheel with a td06 rear made ball bearing (he was keeping stuff secret) my car is pretty laggy but once it comes on it comes on hard, it puts you in your seat good, but after being in Justin's car his feels like it boosts earlier with the 3071 and feels smoother getting onto boost were mine its comes on all at once
im running 23-25psi at approx 275awkw on 98. personally I think a gtx3076 or even a blouch would have been a better turbo with a cheaper price tag as mines about 1k on top of the gold price...

Yeah he keeps stuff a little secret, as there are so many rip-offs of other turbo manufacturers. He does offer money back if you aren't totally happy with the turbo though (although that requires pulling the turbo out, etc.

<GB> - did you have oil leaking from yours? Kyp mentioned the oil feed lines should be drilled out a little... (however my mechanic mentioned over-oiling a ball bearing turbo can make them eat oil).
