Hi all, new to the forums here. I own a 2007 Liberty Gt Spec B and it is at the Shop at the moment being fixed and i was wondering if anyone could quote me some prices for genuine Subaru parts:

1. Piston ring set
2. Crankshaft Bearing Kit
3. Con-rod Bearing Kit

I was suggested by the service manager to replace these parts whilst the engine is stripped back to save on ridiculous labor costs down the track.


P.S. Car is stock other than cat-back and tyres.

How stripped down is it?

A better option might be to swap in an STi EJ257 short block. This will set you back about 2.5K but it comes all assembled, so no bottom end rebuild labour costs.

It is under warranty so I'm not being charged for labour, and it's optional to replace the items i stated above. The service manager said they are on the lower end of spec but not low enough to be covered by warranty. So he offered to put them in for their internal price no labour. price was $1400 for them but that sounded high to me.. thoughts?

I don't want to replace the engine, that i would have to pay labour for haha

You're much better off getting an entire short block assembled from factory, than trust dealership mechanics to assemble a stock engine for you.

Why would you need to pay labour to replace a short block? It's less labour than putting bearings and pistons in - straight swap.

Invest in a cast wheel water pump/Arp head studs/killer b oil pick up.

If you have dealer warranty do t they cover ALL costs ?

What is build date of car as we here try and determine factory production issue.

What were your symptoms ?
