Fuel Rail Setup

Postby cynner » Sun Jul 26, 2015 11:29 am

I'm trying to work out what fuel setup I should use with the new engine build.

I have 1000cc injectors I can use. DW65C fuel pump. I'm looking at adding a Turbosmart FPR800 and doing a parallel rail setup.

Should I use the stock rails and just have those adapted? Or should I pull these out completely and get a AVO rail setup. The downside of this is that the costs starts to really add up when you include all the fittings I'd need, etc.

Thoughts?

I'd look at Radium rails, lines and FPR.
https://www.radiumauto.com
Great value and innovative design.
Iirc Tupeed is a local dealer.
If you're going parallel, an FPR with dual return ports is a good idea allowing one Y to be used (instead of 2)...

As your power aims are relatively modest, just ID1000's on the stock rails and FPR should suffice.
It's also possible to do parallel line mod to the stock rails/lines.
Maybe add an inline damper or an extra couple of ft of hose to help quell damp the injector pulses.

Going the full monty is expensive, it's obviously an area that can't be skimped on.
But a decent pump and the mods listed just above should get you there IMHO...

Cool thanks, the Radium stuff looks very nice!

Chatted with my mechanic, he'll set up a parallel setup using the Turbosmart FPR1200 (has two ports)... with the stock rails. I'm just not sure how he'll remove the factory regulator - it looks pretty well integrated on the fuel rail...

Look up the parallel on stock rail mod on iirc LGT or Nasioc for more info.
The stock fpr is near the engine harness connector, so if there's something similar at the rail/injector area it may be a damper/s...

I can only find guides showing the side feed to top feed conversion, or the top feed with the older alloy intake manifold (not the plastic one) - and the rail setup looks slightly different. This so far is the best one I've found: http://www.ludicrous-speed.com/wiki/ind ... l_rail_mod

They're out there...

I'm sure I bookmarked some others too.
Keywords to use with eg "parallel fuel Subaru" are "brass tee" "quick disconnect" "y block" etc".

Connectors etc..

I'm fitting my FPR1200 on Monday morining with Matt before being tuned so I'll try and get a few pics for you.
Are you going E85? I'm just sticking with stock rail and injectors for now however re scaling them up to 660cc and pushing the rail pressure up as I'm not going E85 yet. Trying to slow up on costs now myself.

Ahhh sweet, yeah some pics would be great! Are you going to then run the rails in parallel? (I think the FRP1200 has two outlets, so you can run one to each rail (requires cutting the rail and fitting a Y piece for the return-to-tank line I think).

Keen to see pics of what the rail looks like before/after the stock fuel pressure regulator is removed... from what I could tell it looks fairly well integrated with the rail itself (tack welded on to one of the rails or something?)

I'm going 1000cc injectors (only because they came with the engine I bought), but still just P98 petrol.

I don't plan on touching the rails at this stage, I'll do parallel rails in the next stage if I want to push it further with bigger injectors and flex fuel possibly. Just fitting up the FPR for the increased pressure we will be running. I'll get a pic on Monday of how the FPR mounts up though.

How'd your FPR install go today?

Not quite as planned. Been a long day.. We got it installed after the stock one as we struggled to remove the stock FPR.
Mounted it up a bit rough I will get back to it later as we were very limited on time.

Here's a couple pics..

Ended up with 227kw and over 900Nm of torque at 18.5 psi. Had a bit of boost creep though due to binding of the actuator.
Then lost all boost pressure halfway home from Coffs Harbour and limped home. About to pull the turbo off and sus it out.. I've done all the other easy checks..

Another view. Slightly clocked due to the return hose being too long and possibly kinked later. I'll fix this later, but I've got other issues to investigate first.

Ah yeah, had a chat to my mechanic yesterday - the stock FPR looks hard to remove without having the intake manifold off (the screens are underneath). Luckily my intake manifold is off the car, so he'll be able to undo the stock FPR and fit the relevant adaptor, etc. Then do the parallel setup.

That's a nice power output! That's no good re: losing all boost :( Sure it's not just a silicon hose burst off or something?

Yeah good idea to sort it all now while its off.

Yeah I checked all hoses etc. I will be very surprised if it is a turbo failure being a brand new Blouch unit.. We run it and tuned it for 12, 15 and 18 psi. Would continue to climb up to 18.5 up top so I was getting a little creep somewhere. Im hoping the stock BOV has cracked or something. Ill be taking the dump off on the weekend to check the hot side. But for now its in the shed, dead. :(
