Price for short block

Does anyone know what a used EJ255 short block would be worth?

I'd guessed something similar but would like to know for sure as I'll be selling mine soon ;-)

Going to replace my short block with an EJ257.
Its about $2000 more than my partial rebuild would cost, but I end up with a brand new engine. By the time i sell my current short block I won't be much worse off.

I've seen a couple long blocks go for under $1000 on ebay.

Last one was re listed a couple of times at $800. I almost bought it as I was comunicating with the seller but someone got there before me.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2007-Liberty ... true&rt=nc

I would say $1000 for a reasonbly quick sale. $1500 if you don't mind it sitting around for a couple of months.

I think that one's a bit cheaper due to the smashed timing belt cover. Risky purchase I guess.

But you're right $1000-1500 seems to be the consensus. I'm sure it won't be a quick sale... God knows how I'll even get it home from the mechanics haha

It's not really a build, but it'll be done by MSR.

so when you say you are getting a long block is that basically a new engine and you bolt on all your existing ancillaries ?

What happens to engine numbers then ?

No no. I'm getting a new short block. So will still be using my old head.

Engine number will change so have to get a blue slip, or change of details.

Not sure I agree with you there.... makes no difference to the buyer.

How would a buyer know the engine number has changed? 99.9% of people don't even look at that. Rego papers only show the current engine number, not the history of engine numbers.
Plus the sort of person that's going to buy a modified GT is going to love the fact it'll have an STI semi closed deck short block.
