Hi,
Long time listener, infrequent caller.
My Liberty 2.5L (03/04 sports auto) has done its bottom end just before its 187k service. Has a lovely knock and a taste for oil.

Before this it always serviced on or before the due time (usually before but never over), used good fuel etc.
I am after some advice on what to do.
My options are
A. Engine rebuild. Mechanic has a ballpark quote of $5500+ (is this good/bad/not bad?),
B. Getting a reconditioned motor to slot on. Who's the goto people for engines? (EJ25).
C. Trade in the car and get something on finance.
I am located on the Northern Beaches in Sydney
Thanks.
Hi all, my liberty has unfortunately also suffered from the same fate. Any info on local (melb) engine re-builders or wreckers would be much appreciated. I've been quoted $7-7.5k from Gotitrex in Sunshine for a rebuild. Would like to know what other options are available, seeing as though I'd like to keep the car for at least a year or two.
Cheers,
Jamie

Whats your budget...
Whats the aim?
eg get back on the road as economically as possible?
or
go forged, closed deck, sleeves etc?

Don't really have the extra cash at the moment, so budget is bit tight. Only looking to get it back on the road, not in a position to spend cash on engine mods during the process right now

Brand new EJ257 shortblock + labour + accessories + gaskets/overhaul kits = $5-6k (closer to 6)
That's the best way to go imo, I know the rough price because it being done on mine right now..
You could go a used engine, but that's risky and would only save a grand or two at the most

Thanks Daniel, sounds like I've been over quoted then. I might have to shop around.
Thanks Ben, whats the history on that engine, I couldn't locate Dazz as a member here.

Might be better if someone from Vic could answer that but I do have a question.
Did Gotitrex quote you $7-7.5k to rebuild your engine or to put a new EJ257 shortblock in?

Ah ok, I'd ask them how much to put a new EJ257 in rather than rebuild your block and see what they say.
AFAIK its less labour and works out cheaper

..no upgrades during rebuild
Cromwood auto are doing the work, should be around the $5800.
