So after taking off the TMIC to fit my turbo blanket I noticed these two hoses coming off the transmission which seem to terminate open ended under the TMIC.
What are they for? And why are they open? Is this normal?

Their primary purpose is to fuck up the back of your TMIC, bending all the fins and making you freak out.

By chance, they also stop pressure build-up in the auto transmission by allowing air to move in/out.
