This is the btssm LV from an 04 SG Foz AT I'm helping the local garage with.
Its totally stock and has been enjoyed that way by its owner, what I'd call service abused, basically.
It came to the garage with a totally blown TD04L turbo, lots of oil in the dump and I guess a very rooted journal bearing.
I sourced another 05 TD04L via a Subaru FB group, and after much stuffing around it eventially arrived almost broken through the box and pack with 3 rags. Not impressed.
The garage fitted the turbo, and alas it, or something else is making a grinding rattling noise on boost: the culprit is said to be be the replacement turbo.
Strange since it had little to no play prior to being installed.
I had to check it myself, and went for a quick drive around the block, but I'm basically afraid to go further for fear of doing more damage.
So I'm looking for any advice around these issues.
The mechanic checked that there was oil supply to the turbo.
Apparently they failed to bolt up the aircon compressor before the customer picked up the car, later rectified (!).
The car exhibits a failing drivers side OCV: the angles both reached 10 degrees on ECU reset, but after that its 10 vs 0 or they just give up altogether.
We will likely swap sides to see if the issue follows: meaning failing OCV, if not its oil supply related, probably the thing that killed the original turbo is my suspicion.
So what I want to know is:
Is the car safe to take for a quick freeway log: eg 10klm?
Can anyone suggest the specific parameters to be logged for these issues? (I may have too many params checked)
Could anyone interested take a peek at the logs for insight?
Logs in vague order:
drive around the block
reset ecu and log avcs recal
trying to get the avcs to kick in, in neutral
as above...
