Who runs an engine cover?

With my recent FMIC install I was wondering who still runs their engine cover and how have you customized it?

If you have painted it, what tips have you got?

i've got the H6 but still my cover is off. It slightly hinders the engine from radiating heat... like wearing a beanie in summer.

No cover any more on my car given the PW TMIC... :)

I removed mine months ago and I still have nearly everything stock under the bonnet.

Just be aware that the engine cover forms a seal with the stock bonnet scoop to ensure that all required air passes through the TMIC...

Thanks Rob, I don't remember seeing a seal but I'll put it back on if its that important.

Subaru spends tens of thousands engineering a way to make an engine cover be non detrimental in all hot, and cold weather testing to ensure it runs within parameters designated.

Said cover is used in the harshest environments on earth to the limits of the car.

Australian guy with $12k used liberty removes it to uncover the ugly (intentionally poorly finished engine/wiring/plenum/runners/ancilleries because... I dont even know.

Subaru learnt their lesson with the WRX... no cover ;)

I was under the impression an engine cover was there to make things look less ugly, not necessarily to benefit the performance of the engine per sey.

Aesthetics are certainly one function. It does help to provide airflow control as well for the vehicles with a TMIC), and it can help to insulate the engine itself from harsh conditions outside the bonnet (as an extra layer of insulation against temperature extremes for example).

It can also help "hide the evidence" if someone who dislikes modifications decides to look under the bonnet. A stock-looking engine bay with the engine cover in place is much less suspicious in the eyes of those who would seek to enforce the law.

I'm currently trying to work out how I can fit the stock cover with the minimum modification to work with my PW TMIC and 3port solenoid mounting bracket. I suspect my Dremel will get used.

i don't run mine as it didn't come with it which sucked as it had the sti build number on it, I brought one second hand in case I wanted to put it on and cover things from the coppers! I run a fmic so it makes it hard to fit and look good! justins looks crap imo lol

I reckon it looks pretty good, I only would take off the stickers.

I run one, because it came on the car.

I prefer it to be honest, than not having one. I think it makes the engine bay look a hell of a lot tidier.

Mine is a ZeroSports, came on the car when I bought it.

They're not for everyone I guess, I like the look of a clean engine bay without them, especially on the older models, but I think they suit these libs.
