How many VBG1 boost gauge owners do we have here?

Postby Manaz » Thu Aug 07, 2014 5:09 pm

Hi all,

I've just started the install of my VBG1 boost gauge, and I'm glad I grabbed a spare vent from a wrecker. :)

It seems the vents in the US models are slightly different to ours, with the horizontal louvres being held captive in a hole well inside the vent plastic in the US, but "clipped in" at the edge on AUDM models.

I've had to modify the holes slightly (widen them) to have the gauge sit properly.

The other thing I've noticed is the top of our vents look different to the US models, and the spot where the VBG1 instructions say the ribbon cable should exit doesn't seem to work for us. I'd be keen to know where others have run the ribbon cable out of the vent into the under-dash area.

Next step is to get power to the control module, and a boost signal from under the bonnet. I grabbed the tubing the VBG1 guys sell, I just need to find a good way to route it now.

I figured out how to get to ribbon cable to exit via the top - I just had to trust the resilience of the cable more... :)

From memory,I just followed the instructions they sent with the unit when I installed mine, and it was all pretty straight forward. It did feel a bit wrong bending the ribbon at right angles though, I thought it would crimp it and do some damage for sure! I got power to mine by using what was effectively a double adapter for one of the fuses in the fuse box and just piggybacked one of the circuits.
Great unit the VBG1, I've been very happy with mine.

Use the contact details on the website, I believe they've made to order in the past.

Yeah I just contacted the guy through the website and told him what i was after, and he put one together for me, and then put it on the website so I could buy it. That was a bit less than a year ago now, but from memory it didn't take him that long to get back to me, so hopefully he is still making them.

Mind me asking which site? as there's a wix based url and another, I'm unsure if they both go the same way with the contact page (they're both identical)

I did read about them producing them on an order basis, crossing fingers hoping he gets back to me, i really don't like the idea of having to mount a gauge anywhere else

Cheers!

I'm running the VBG gauge in my libbie. No issues at all. Ribbon exits through the top also.

Mine will get installed soon - there's a few other things being finalised at present, VBG1 will come after the others are sorted out... :)

I sent them a message through the contact us on their website and told them which unit I was after:

Not sure if that is the link you have been using?

I like mine, but I've uninstalled it to see if u can live w/o it...
I found the reflection at night in the drivers window bugged me a little :P
I'd like to integrate the display into the top of the steering column cover ftw :)

Maybe create a cowl over it to block the reflection? :P
