Strategy for oil in air intake tract

Postby Manaz » Fri Aug 01, 2014 9:59 pm

Hi all,

I noticed when I removed my stock TMIC that despite giving it a good clean-out with petrol only a few months ago, there was a very light coating of oil in it when I took it off last week.

I know that oil in the intake tracts is bad, but what's the strategy for dealing with this on a 2.5T?

Pretty sure the solution is a catch can, no?

AOS like the grimmspeed one or a catch can. The aos is maintenance free, while the catch cans need emptying.

Some people say the aos is not as good as a catch, it can deposit water vapour from the vac lines back into the oil...That's a matter to test yourself with oil testing, as for the important stuff - the aos keeps the air intake oil free (on mine:)).

Dual AOS/catch cans is a good solution. Eg Sakou Michi
Both venting to the inlet.
Separate systems for heads and ccv.

Or a single AOS/cc with a one way valve for the heads breather line.

Or if just for street the Grimmspeed oil cap AOS is a decent option...

One way valve in the heads breather line? Where exactly?
