Turbo inlet hoses off - how do I reconnect

Postby triston » Sat Jul 19, 2014 3:37 pm

Hi All,

I have an issue with 1 possibly 2 hoses that have come off my stock turbo inlet hose (I think that is what its called). Question 1 - do the GT liberty's have the PCV hose connected to the inlet hose: (the one in with the question maeks in the below)
Image

As mine seems to be off

Another hose is definitely off - the one just before the flex joint (in the above comparison pic):

Where does this one connect to and can it be reconnected without pulling off the manifold?

Thanks,
Triston

The first hose should be connected, it's a moulded short hose to the back of the intake manifold from memory. The red hose in your pic seems to be missing the plumbing for that hose in particular. My PSR inlet had it in a different spot so it just needed a longer hose to connect it. The second (assuming I am looking at the right bit) is your BOV return hose. A horrible hose to re-connect without the manifold off but you can do it. You'll want to get those sorted so you aren't sucking in non filtered/ non metered air.
Black on Black..

Yep the pcv goes to the top rear iirc :)
This could be a great excuse to replace/upgrade the stock inlet hose.

Two tools may be of use to reconnect the smaller more forward hose, the handle end of a really big screwdriver inserted up the inlet from where the short fat bit connects - to help seat the hose from inside.
And extended long nose pliers to grab the hose end.

Get an inspection mirror and pickup magnet kit to help check everything's seated inc the turbo inlet all the way around.
Pumping in led torch light from below can help reveal detail :)

The second pic: can you make another pulled back a bit to show the location better?

Ok this link has a schematic that shows what goes where...

This is the most crucial diagram I've evers seen explaining the liberty / legacy vacuum system :)

I'm thinking this too

The two hoses that are off are:

The second pic is coming in from the intercooler side, between the the manifold and intercooler, the hose is still connected to the inlet pipe:

As mentioned, with an inlet upgrade hose 1 gets extended with a joiner and +30-40cm of heater hose to a nipple at the other end of the inlet hose :)

You'll have more luck removing the tmic for access to find the other hose.
From the diagram I linked to:
upper hose in pic > red line > 3way > CCV (the other branch goes to pcv mounted on rear of the inlet mani.
Lower hose in pic > green line > hose leads to y pipe to head breathers

Note each head has 2 vents each, one for head breathers to inlet, the other is a balance pipe just side to side :)

If you remove the tmic you can see those and the three way.

If you get that far use a 17mm deep socket to remove and check/clean the PCV.

See pcv location entry :)

No major dramas there just observe the very low torque of the turbo & tmic bov bolts.
Easily stripped if you don't take care.
The gasket of the tmic to throttle body must be checked.
Consider the Kobe Motorsports sfb, inlet & tmic to TB hose kit.

Use WD to help get the hose out and maybe some hairspray to lube the hoses on and to help seal as they dry.
Better off lubing up, rotating and wiggling hoses on as pics can tear the silicone.

And have gasket paper and sealant on hand just in case.
