Hey guys,

Anyone experience popping or crackling when in between shifts or simply backing off after hitting boost?

Cheers

Means its running lean and pinging and then dumping fuel and thus popping and cracking.

Your motor is probably fucked and needs a rebuild.

Yep mine gives a rather loud POP if I shift smoothly and a little slow after flat foot accelerating to over 3000-3500rpm. The pop occurs just before I let the clutch out into the next gear. Also burbles/pops when rev matching on downshifts. Matt played around with the tune but it still persists, it doesn't bother me. It only started after getting the exhaust fitted. 3" turbo back, Advance dump, and x-force mufflers.

Cheers mate sounds familiar. I just was worried it wasn't normal but appears it is..

Do you get say when hitting boost in second gear then easing into third it pops/crackles etc?

Upgrade your fuel pump to spray more fuel, to get more flames!

Depends on what your goals are. Fuel pump is great for a bigger turbo or switching to E85...otherwise the stock pump is fine for up to 220ishkwatw on pump

Any changes to the exhaust on the car in question?

Popping/farting/burbling on over-run (which is exactly what you described) is pretty normal in automotive terms - as you end up with unburned fuel that ignites in the exhaust system rather than in the cylinder. Changes to exhaust can make this more obvious, particularly if cats and muffler/resonator designs have changed from stock.

You know in some cars, they're actually tuned to do this (pop/fart on over-run)? Golf GTIs and AMG Mercs are two off the top of my head that I believe are specifically factory tuned to promote this.

And if you want to see some seriously evil over-run and flames, check out the EVO magazine drive of the McLaren P1 on the racetrack in Abu Dhabi... :)

I get a back fire almost every gear change.

If rev on down shift i get a back fire.

Its loud enough that Owens cat suggestion would produce flames.

Mmmhh next mod.
