jumping out of 6th gear

i have an issue with 6th gear. when driving through a town the other day, i shifted down from 6th to 4th to reduce speed, when out of the town and back up to 110kph the car started to jump out of 6th gear. This happened 3 times in a row, on the 3rd time I kept my hand on the gear level and could feel in thumbing until it jumped out. Only happened in 6th all the gears are fine. Car is a 2008 gt liberty sti.

Has anyone else experience this or any ideas on the problem? My regular mechanic doesn't do gear boxes, so I'm looking for a subaru gearbox specialist in sydney - any suggestions would be helpful (googling sti transmission doesn't return what i'm looking for)

I'd start by checking the gear box oil level, the dipstick is by the dump near the turbo.
Check the oil condition by dripping some on white paper. Then get back to us..

This.
Buddy of mine had a similar issue with his 6MT (though it was getting into gear, not staying in gear that was the issue).
New oil = :D

Syntrax is the stock 6mt oil. I documented a top up here:

So maybe check the oil level and condition first.
If its super low and dirty, TuSpeed sell the Company23 Torx thats required for draining the 6MT.

3rd hit: (pretty sure the 6mt is the T70)

Not going into gear can be an oil or a synchro problem.
Jumping out of gear is usually a synchroniser hub or detent problem.

As above, start with the basics. Check/replace the oil first.

Thanks All,

I'll check the gearbox oil this weekend. and follow up with my findings.

How difficult is it to drain and change the transmission oil (I know with some car the gearbox has to come out)

How long should transmission oil last? I think I had the car for 60,000 kms (approx 4 years). I did see this company http://www.alldrivesubaroo.com.au/ - has anyone heard of them?

Check oil level and condition first. Top up if required.
Then worry about an oil change and the required tools.
Car on stands, T70 to drain the box. $$$ of Syntrax to refill...

Pray there is nothing more wrong with your delightful 6mt... :P

The service items and intervals are in your service book iirc :)
