Got Hitech mufflers today :)

Postby TorpedoCreative » Mon Apr 21, 2008 5:13 pm

Big thanks to Rob (aka Q) for the arrival of a set of dual tip hitech mufflers. Got them today and wasted no time in getting them on. ive taken the car around the block - sounds fantastic, it has that burble on idle and when you accelerate you can hear it (although quite subtle), but doesnt drone or sound loud inside the car. The dual tips look great IMO.

pics below for those considering a similar mod..

Got a set of these myself James and very happy
Can I ask do you find that the right side is down a little on the outside tip and is the right side sitting more towards the outside?
Reason for asking is that mine is on new hangers, and being more towards the outside of the recess the pipes touch the bumper recess when it moves when going over bumps so beware as mine has melted the bumper (not severe)
Just wondering wether is it fractionally wrong in the design ?

Hi Pete
The picture below should answer your questions.

Image

Note, I bought these second hand (1 month old) and they were orginally fitted to a MY04GT wagon, so I wasnt sure how well these would fit my MY07GT sedan.
It seems to fit fine except I noticed that the right hand tips sticks out more than the left? Not a major problem as I might be getting the pipework between the cat and mufflers made up and I will get that adjusted then.

Both clear the gaps in the bumper, although when I was installing them the first hitech tips was resting on the bumper and it wasnt until I swapped the other muffler that they both sat clear of the bumper.

Hope that answers your Q's

James

Good job! Even though the power gain minimal (although response was a bit quicker), it sounds and looks great!

thanks guys, Is there much to be gained from doing the zorst from the cat back to these mufflers? will it be much louder as it no longer will have the resonator that comes with the standard system.

Im under the impression that as long as I do the cat back and not forward I dont void my new car warranty? is this right?

will it be much louder as it no longer will have the resonator that comes with the standard system.

You'll probably get more rumble underneath, but don't know how much louder it will be inside. However instead of going with their expensive catback piping, you can go to any local muffler shop and have them custom bend pipes for you for much cheaper. Plus if you're worried about noise you can have them throw in the middle resonator.

Is there much to be gained from doing the zorst from the cat back to these mufflers?

HiTech are claiming about 9-10 kw with their mufflers in a catback setup.

Im under the impression that as long as I do the cat back and not forward I dont void my new car warranty?

There was another thread talking about voiding warranty. But I think it came down to what dealership you go to. Some won't touch your car because you modified it even though it may not have anything to do with the part you're claiming on. While others are more flexible and actually check whether or not your mod was the main cause of the problem.

Bah! Phil (MY07GT) has a turbo back set up & boost controller and he's not worried.

Do it, James! Despite being one of the best sounding exhaust for the MY07, I only had the HiTech mufflers.

However when I moved to the K2 Gear catback setup, the response and performance gains were great! So I think if you were to move to a catback setup as well, you'll really open it up. You'll have performance to compliment the sound!

The car is booked in tomorrow for the cat back exhaust
Im going to get it without the a resonator first and see how loud it is?

Q:Should it be 3" and then 2.5" where it splits into two?

hey mate
I got mine second hand (3000ks on them) so the price wasnt RRP. I think the RRP from hitech is quite high though :? so might be worth keeping an eye on the for sale thread.
Yep the mufflers bolted straight on. I swapped them over myself. I then took it to an exhaust shop to change the pipework from the cat back to 3" . I wanted a bit more noise and performance, although from what I read getting the rest of the exhaust done is the key to getting big gains (which is on my long list ;) )
