That's getting close to the maximum efficiency of the VF46 turbo. You're better to have some headroom near peak efficiency - once you pass peak efficiency, the turbo ends up heating the air up more than you'd really want to be seeing.

Turbos operating beyond their peak cost you power.

Shav,
How much power are you making on your auto and KIDO tune, are you running vf 46?

Cheers

Hey Victor, still running VF46. Pre CBE Matt reckons between 145-150atw. (refer mods in sig) Once I get my CBE fitted either this week or next, Im hoping for another 5-10 again after a retune. I havent had it dynoed for well over a year since the initial tune, and have had 3 new revisions done since then. So I cannot confirm the numbers, only what Matt estimates it's got. Im planning on getting a dump fitted later this year too which should net some better torque and power all round.
Cheers
Shav

Very late for me to chime in on this but i can tell you that MSR tunes VF46's to 17/18psi every time unless asked otherwise. My first tune was 18psi in S# and that made 181wkw with less mods and in an auto. So if youre after a bit more power i would definitely consider more boost. But in saying that you may as well wait until the VF52 to save yourself the cost of another re-tune. Have a look at the first page of my build thread if youd like a direct comparison between the 2 turbos

I had my vf46 tuned tuned to 18psi with a bigger fuel pump and xforce tbe.192.4wkw in a 6mt. Ive got a vf52 ready to go in and retuned at the same shop on the27th of this month, I`ll let you know the results if youre interested.

Dave I am keen to know the results too. Sounds like you've done very well on the vf46 already. Any other mods other than TBE and tune?

Victor did you get my text or did I text someone random? Did you end up getting quad tips right? MM is telling me they can't fit under my bumper.

Yeah he has upgraded the fuel pump.
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=10274
Wouldn't make much if any difference at this stage though as you dont max out the stock pump until well over 200kw.

If you want a comparison of vf46 to vf52 look at page 1 of my thread. No need to wait for dave hahaha

I have an OBD monitor that digitally shows boost in second gear hitting a peak of 18psi and in3rd gear its hitting approx 16.5psi, not sure how accurate this is compared to a mechanical gauge?
Seems like vf 52 is the way to go to try an ahcieve the 200kw mark?
Will tuning it with Kido get me more power? its got a verso tune at the moment, just wondering how easy it is to swap between the verso and kido and vice versa?

dont want to go e85 becuase of the limited availability of e85 in Perth.

Just another question: my invidia downpipe sounds a bit raspy at 1500rpm on a cold start, sounds seems to be coming from underneath driver side door, is this normal?

VF52 will get you very close to 200kW on 98.

I wouldn't use either ASG or Kido. I would contact Eric at Torqued Performance for your tuning; cheaper than both and his results speak for themselves; not to mention his turn around time for revisions on the tunes.

Eric's turn around time is amazing, and he IS very good, safe tunes that give you powa and driveability. However....you need your own tactrix cable, and a basic knowledge of RomRaider and EcuFlash. And hopefully a basic understanding of how your turbo + engine + ecu work (if you want to be able to deal with problems that may arise). These blokes sound like they're fairly new to subie's and modifications....

I suggest they're not ready for e-tuning, especially as it sounds like a workshop will be installing their parts.

But if they have the guts to learn about it, it may be far better in the long run than letting some workshop hack up your car.

Ps. Vf52 can easily get you over 200kw. The point is - tuning a car isn't about the peak kW number....a vf52 can take you to 233kwatw, but it doesn't mean you'll enjoy the car. If all the tuner talks to you about is "the kw we can make" and how it's a "fully safe tune", or "sorry we just couldn't get more kw out of it" and they can't explain why....find a better tuner and do some reading about tuning. :D *wipes sweat off brow*

Just got my car kido tuned my matt. All i can say is wow. similar dyno used as ASG (previous tune) (dynapack hub dyno).
Final power figure - 208kw!!!!!!!
what a difference. Up almost 40kw from the verso tune i had previously on my stock vf46. im gona hold off on that turbo upgrade for a while now.
I must also say Matt is an awesome guy himself, and value for money cannot be beaten.

Def pulls harder in first and second. i love the flat foot shifting on it tho (its quick to 100 with it) Plus matt was showing me in my verso tune it was pulling timing above 4000rpm all the way to redline.
