Blouch 440xt vs Dom1.5 XT-R

Calling all turbo guru's!

I've done quite a bit of searching on here and other sites but have struggled to find comparative info regarding these 2 turbos even though i believe they're quite similar (in size).

Firstly, the 440xt. It's quite hard to find specs on the 440xt apart from its a journal bearing turbo rated to 440 hp with a billet compressor wheel and "suited" to liberty's. The billet compressor wheel is rated at 44lb/min. Available in 7cm or 8cm rear housing.

Secondly, the Dom1.5 XT-R:

490 hp
Garrett Ball bearing CHRA
56.5mm Turbine Wheel
71mm XT Compressor wheel
49lbs per min
8cm or 10cm Exhaust housing available

Main question that i'd like to know the answer of: Assuming that they both have the same 8cm rear housing, would there be a big difference in lag in these turbo's? They both have billet wheels so would the ball bearings of the dom1.5 reduce the spool time for it to be comparable to the old school journal bearing technology of the 440xt?

Car to be installed on is MY07 gt-b with 6 speed manual box.

FYI: Phat recommended the 440xt, but I'm just not sure that its what i want. Car is already booked in at garage 88.

what cooler will you be running? or custom from Phat?

coz they both have different comp covers..

will you go with the Mitsu TD05 wheel on the 440 or the blouch custom wheel?

I hear the 1.5xtr spools quite well...

pretty sure 380 & 440 both have the TD05 wheels = 55.8mm turbine wheels

dom 1.5xtr = 56.5mm

So I would say the 1.5 would spool a little early, Ball bearing.

But the 1.5 has 71mm exducer...so there takes away a bit of spool away.

If you went the 7cm on the 440 then I'd go the 440 for spool.

yeah custom front mount from phat...so the comp covers shouldn't be an issue.

if i went the 440, it would just be mitsu wheel.

been doing a heap of reading now on the 1.5 and i actually think im sold...i think it is a better option for me, assuming 8cm vs 8cm.

I went GTX2863R, faster spool and more low rpm torque(full boost and torque 800rpm earlier than a Dom 1.5 on a comparable same engine setup with same exhaust setup, Dom had headers as well though) 45% more torque at 3000rpm is hard to miss :air_kiss:

20 psi easy at 7200rpm on the Dom 1.5XTR on mine...

440 is an old turbo. But it is a direct bolt on. The 1.5 dom is what you want, but it will require work. They are also expensive. 20g-xtrs are good too, but once again, the dom is a newer design. Same rear, but with a garret 71mm wheel.

Have you looked at going a garrett drop in GTX28 or GTX30?? Every one that I know that owns a garrett is very happy with it.

I think there is ATP or something in the USA that do a stock location drop in garrett.

I will see if I can find it.

Yeah initially I wanted a gt2871r so I figured the dom1.5 is the closest thing to that in the blouch range plus is has the billet wheel which the gt2871r doesn't have. I'm led to believe that blouch are designed for suby's so they fit easier?

The gtx2867r is another turbo that caught my eye. Is that easy to fit or does it involve mucking around like the gtx30's?

So, as i typed at great length on my phone before..
The dom 1.5 is a x3071 set of wheels in a blouch modified housing. It is by far the best of the bolt on turbos in that size. In short, it is the one he wants. All of those bolt on Garretts do not perform like an actual Garrett. It seems they are all laggier then choke down, no doubt a function of their prehistoric exhaust housing design. Funnily enough, the peak power is usually on par with the real Garrett, but the area under the curve isn't as great.
The dom 1.5 will get to 310-315 kw at the wheels on a 2.5. A stock 2.5 will last about 20 seconds at those power levels however.
Dom 1.5 is what you want. Your job is to get in Jslayz ear and tell him he is a sissy and he should run a 35r on his motor, then lowball him for his dom 1.5. But shhh. Keep that part of the plan between you and I.

Oh and another edit. The 20gxtr and the dom 1.5 are very similar, the dom can just edge it out in top end performance. So if it comes to buying second hand a 20g-xtr is nearly as good as a dom1.5, we are talking 10-15 hp at the wheels difference, at max potential.

You want to go 8cm rear housing too.

Did you go for the 8 or 10cm rear J?

From what I've read, the lag is only 1-200 rpm later and negligible if using e85.
