Thanks champs! I've taped into a wealth of threads on IWSTi that I shall link to.
The info supports most of what is being posted here.
Getting close to summarizing this thread with budgets, build options and builders/suppliers.

I'd like to see a wild card option: SOHC heads on a 2.5T block if thats even possible.
Why? Simply to trade complexity for simplicity and reliability.
The idea comes from the Outfront build options list.
Shoot it down or talk it up.

A little more detail here

The SOHC option is for the US guys who supercharge or turbocharge their 2.5 NA motors and timing belts are not a huge problem unless as they say, your using a sand rail etc

The cam signal from the SOHC is not compatible with your ECU

Expensive and overkill unless you want to run biiiiiig boost. Budget on around 1200 for each. I think with the improvements in tuning over the years the need for for all this fancy gear in a mild build is dwindling.
Dollar for dollar (IMHO here) one of those Rising sun bottom ends with the CP's and whatever rods will do the trick. Get some custom aged head studs as per Mick's set up (not 14mm as per mine). Set it up with a a bolt on turbo like a blouch unit and a good tune with 22ish psi and a rev limit below 7500 rpm and away you go. It would make what it makes, have a wide torque band and be a reliable thing.

See this is my issue.

My power target is 300kw atw. ALL DAY ON 98.!!

So sleeving is probably the way to go with the fact that i want it all day everyday!

Also this 300kw atw wont be happening for a few years, so the car will drive around with my current setup until then ie uuuber reliable as it barely nudges 190kw atw.

I dont want a motor that will have to be re done in 2 years cause it spat the dummy.

When i have a normal daily driver then it will go 300kw atw!!

Sleeving become a viable option if you are re using your existing block too ie, if there is any damage to your bores, get rid of them and run sleeves. Stronger and new! So go for it in your case (pun not intended).

Needs clarification.

Google told me 255 (Wrx) open, 257 (Sti) semi closed - but its really just 2 extra webs per bore.
The Phil Lowe engine that was recently FS was properly semi closed with big slugs locating the bores but with open areas presumably to maintain even cooling.
viewtopic.php?f=68&t=22302&p=320339&hilit=Phil+Lowe#p320339
The outfront blocks are closed deck using a more extensive insert to add additional strength to the 08+ blocks that suffer from weak bores. Outfront recommend decking at +10lbs of boost.

Sleeveing?
Can be a big hassle if not done properly.
Required for "500 over" applications (hp atw)
May or not be mutually exclusive of decking (clarification needed).

Ill add pics extra info to this post later

Before you commit to anything please read the "need vs want" rebuild thread in IWSTi...
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/built-motor ... udget.html

Ps: Are we on 255 or 257 blocks?

Whoever says an ej255 is open deck either needs their eyes checked or needs to get off a pc and actually learn how to turn a spanner

I will tell you all liberty ej255 are open deck - and whilst only two extra ribs, these ribs do actually assist in keeping the cylinder true during high cylinder pressures
