Hey guys,
im heading overseas for 5-6 weeks next week. What should i do to my car to help it deal with it not being started for so long?

I know the obvious disconnect the battery thing.. but is there anything else? Ive heard people say the fuel can go stail etc

mate,
just disonnect negative to the battery and forget about it.
get home and just drive it.

far too much cork sniffing going on about letting a car sit for a few weeks

Given that the ECU will have reset itself with the power down
the car will take longer to crank over and fire, this allows the oil pressure to build much better to replace what has drained before it rev's up.

If you're worried about the fuel going stale, don;t leave much in the tank and go fill it with fresh stuff when you get back

This may be a VERY dumb question.. but if the ECU resets itself, does that mean i need to get my tune flashed back on??

dont over think it Adam. Chances are you wont have any issue with your car not starting after 6 weeks. If it were me, I'd get a car cover put on it. Perhaps get a trusted friend or family member to tick it over every fortnight for 5 mins.

No, I believe the tune is locked into the ecu mate.

there are no dumb questions, only dumb people who don;t ask questions....!

nope ECU "reset" on resets "learned" behaviour

The car will be in a garage so the weather wont be a problem.. getting someone to start it would be nice but not really an option for me as most of my friends live on the other side of sydney. No biggie, ill just disconnect the battery and im sure it will be fine :D

I think there is such as thing as 'keep alive memory' (KAM), which learns the way you drive and subtly adapts the ecu to suit. This memory will be erased if battery disconnected. But that doesnt changed the overall tune that MSR has manually coded into it. Correct me if Im wrong fellas. I'm going off my knowledge of Ford ECU's being a learning computer.

If your like me and wash the car prior to leaving it, you want to be able to get home and make sure there is no dust on it when you get back, so you dont have to wash it again. Hence the suggestion of a car cover. But again, that's just me.

Its technically a "no-no" but ive got a microfibre dusting mit that i use for thhat purpose.. as long as my car hasnt got any dirt on it and its just dust, its pretty harmless to the paint.
