Motorkhana in a Liberty

Thinking about trying Motorkhana as a bit of fun, obviously the Liberty isn't ideal, but I'm stuck with two of the things :P

Just curious as to how it'd go, anyone had experience?

Have 3 sets of wheels/tyres at the moment not sure which would be most suited?
-Good set (wouldn't use)
-235/40/18s, low-end performance radials
-215/45/17s, old and slippery as hell, can spin them up very easily

Also heard of people having issues with power steering systems overheating, something I should keep an eye on? Or not much of a problem on these cars?

I've done a motorkhana in an NA Forester. It was in a paddock though....and it started to rain which was making the field slightly muddy. Thrashed it in first and second gear in low range...took it easy in reverse. Handbrake got lots of use. No problems at all on the day, just keep in mind the warming up and warming down of the vehicle. Came second overall, I even beat an Evo 8!

Oldmate TeK-- memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1613 had done a few in his "project locomotive" 2.5i, I watched a couple of his vids that he sent me doing Motorkhana. Unfortunately I cannot find them and I'm not sure if he visits the forums anymore. But send him a PM?

theres nothing to worry about for gymkhana or motorkhana.

the runs arent long enough to cause the power steering to get hot.
just go have some fun.

In the hot tuner challenge last year they did a motorkhana in all the cars and I read the gen V liberty was the best at it.

Motorkhanas are a lot of fun, I do them in a rear wheel drive on dirt and stay in 1st the whole time, haven't broken anything yet.

Motorkhana's (dirt or tarmac) are a LOT of fun. Very little wear and tear on the car. For example, the Eastern Creek skidpan (NSW) is very smooth concrete - you could lose traction all day long and bearly wear any rubber off your tyres. It's rare that you ever get into second gear too.

There's absolutely no reason why you couldn't do it in a Liberty. Bear in mind that the first few times you use the handbrake, you will stretch the cable a little bit which will make your handbrake bite point higher. This simply requires you to adjust the handbrake cable a little (you can do it on the rear wheels and/or at the handbrake handle) afterwards. I personally like adjusting it so that it bites strong after about 3-4 clicks. It won't stretch any further after that.
