Could be a few things, and a pretty common issue too.
Busy today, alas, but resuming on this tonight...

The car runs fine IMHO, it's in the process of remote tuning with Matt for 3" dump & mid to modded STi sedan muffs.
Other mods are a now-properly sealed HKS air filter and a dw fuel pump & new in tank filter.

The tune revisions so far have been aiming to accomodate the exhaust mods, reduce overall peak boost levels, reduce DBW max requested torque, and once that's done to reduce popping on the overrun.

Matt spotted the avcs discrepancy via regular logging.

The Lib is at 174K, uses around 0.3L of oil per month, maybe rocker cover seal on LH side.
Inspecting the area I noticed oil weeping around the base of the oil filler tube, so ill remove and inspect that - I can't see a gasket there so I'll see what's in the FSM related to that.

I took another look this morning and the 17mm bolt should be accessible when the battery and the plastic air pump tube are removed. Planning to remove that this weekend. Then UEC & oil & filter change...
Open to any advice! :-)

Ok, but what is the issue, still not got an answer for that?

I'm reading the Service Manual and googling the fix, and will document my progress of course!

yes but what issues does "a blocked filter " give?

Logger is reporting LH avcs is around 20 degrees out at around 3000rpm.
Could be the clogged oil filter issue or something related, getting some pertinent suggestions via pm to try out...

Previous owner of my care spent $1000 getting both valves replaced in last 12mths. I wonder whether they still have filters? What is the symptom +1?

You can directly log the AVCS if you want to check their timing to see it's all running correctly. Benny was having some issues with his regular logs and so I guess Matt told him to log AVCS and so they spotted the issue?
That is just a guess of course.

Or simply disable CEL P0011 and P0021.

Problem solved.

Well seems like modus operandi for your tuner.

Boost spike CEL disable P0244

Secondary Air Pump CEL disable all of them. No investigation required. Or blanking plate installed.

Based on that, yes why not..

Thing is, there is no symptom apart from some evidence in the logs.
I'm going to log just LH/RH and revs in each mode to try to see what's going on.

Sorry Bruce but we NEVER disable the P0244 CEL code. It's an extremely important safe guard. As for the secondary air pump, its a common failure in the earlier cars that used it and may become more common in later cars as they age. The official Subaru repair is typically around the $3000 mark just to fix an item that works for 30 seconds after a cold start and it purely for emissions control in that time. If you consider the emissions that a 12 month old car makes compared to a brand new car just in normal driving due entirely to normal wear and tear then not having the secondary air pump working for 30 seconds fades into insignificance.

Getting back on topic, the AVCS system adds a lot to the performance of the car in both power delivery and economy (emissions also) so having it working correctly is important.

OK an update:
I sat in the car in the driveway, logged revs, VVT advance angles L & R.
Revved the car to 3000-4000 rpm and graphed the results:
Image
Current Matt tune revision S# ^^^

Image
Stock standard tune freshly loaded S# ^^^

If VVT advance angles are supposed to match within a few degrees between L & R sides, I have an issue with either the LH solenoid, it's oil lines, or the AVCS mechanism of the LH inlet cam.
Correct me if I'm on the wrong track, please. I'll attach the actual logs to the next post, soon. :-)

OK, some valued feedback via PM:
The LH cam gear AVCS unit is likely damaged due to the long term effects of the stock OCI.
I'll be researching:

A: Attempting to fix the issue with oil flush/uec/mineral flush+new filter/synthetic+new filter (the full monty of band-aid oil related fixes).
B: The possibility of DIY cleaning the LH AVCS gear.
C: The viability of DIY replacing the LH AVCS gear.
D: If not then quotes...
E: How much (if at all) the car can be driven in the meantime AND what other related items should be addressed at the same time.
E.g.: AOS, cambelt + tensioner etc.

As I've said there is no evidence of any issue in either the driving behavior or afaik in LV's.
Just this evidence in the logs.
From what I've seen in research, I hope to have been alerted to a potential major issue (dying engine) early enough to save it.

Please provide your 5c worth ;-)

Ok let me get this straight.... Udisable the secondary air system with out knowing if the vavles are in the right position...!!! Ie full open... To me sounds doggy
