Great link!
I love what outfront are doing for the Subaru community :)
Closed deck blocks, 1/2" head studs and moar!

Yeah I have new avcs gears awaiting install when the appropriate time arrives...

Hm, that link showing the AVCS gears not being aligned properly... why would replacing the OCV's temporarily fix that? (or are these two separate issues?)

The cam gears can get stuck due to debris in the oil, sluding due to improper OCI's or assembly/ installation. The symptoms are different to OCV's with the cam gear being either non operational or getting stuck once actuated.

OCV malfunction is exhibited by lag and oscillation to one side.

Oscillation = new OCV's.
Sticking = new or reco (outfront) avcs cam gears.

Found the reason for my lumpy (shithouse) idle: right intake cam is at 40-55* on idle while the left is 0*
Uh oh... :(

Haha yes Matt I was agreeing with you, and saying autos don't get the SERIOUS issue. A dirty basket is definitely not as expensive to fix as manuals.

I was clarifying the 'difference' in the scenarios :) Even the 03-06 5MT gets it :)

2L gets 0 degrees, while 2.5 6MT gets oscialltions off target

3 more victims of the AVCS club

LorrenK from this forum plus an 07 FXT and an 07 WRX. All had build dates within 4 months of each other. I flat refused to tune the 07 WRX as it was the worst one yet... 26 degrees variation off target :shock:

Yup, was about to post this. It was well disguised under the MRT tune, but very obvious once properly tuned, mostly on taking off from standstill where it would bog, and then take off suddenly once it got some revs and momentum. Less noticeable but more annoying was it would surge and hunt when under cruise control on the freeway.
Bought a replacement set from celtic, and had them put in at subaru (ouch! very exxy, but fleet card paid for it and they were able to do it the day after I called and before the long weekend). Made a huge difference to how the car felt immediately.
Subaru Liberty MY08 GT.B-Spec Wagon 6sp, aka "The Scub". Parrot MKi9200. Soundstream monobloc and Memphis 12" sub. Ultrex front lip. STi short-shifter. DefiLink Boost and Oil press. gauges.
