Thanks for the info: also posted (with LV screenshots) to the Learning View discussion thread.

I didn't really push the stock tune, but the car felt kinda flat. :P

More    penny dropping goodness: Due to the oil use issue, I'd been topping up with 5w30 Edge, which probably thinned the oil quite a bit and either brought on or exacerbated the AVCS issue.

The answer is "lack of education" which is why I'm here

Thanks for the advice , buddy :-)

Some heavy hitters have recommended 10W60, and either myself or another member are likely to give that a go very soon.
I just bought Nulon 10W40 from Repco so they might let me swap it out for that.

In breaking news, I hope to have some input on this issue from the new service manager at the cars home garage, Docklands STi. :D

Still logging the issue, looks like oscillations in RH VVT angle also happen on cruise at C 2300rpm, in comparison to LH VVT angle which is steady.
This is fascinating, since apart from the LH VVT ocsillation/vibration at C 1400rpm, there's no drivability issues...

I'll log warming up the car, induce the vibration, drive to the freeway, start cruise control and graph the results.

(I want to kebab but its the wife's B'Day!)

Even heavier hitters say this oscillation can occur upto 2500RPM at which point enough oil is fed to maintain sychronicity and negate the seal leak impact.

Perhaps a log of 2500 RPM + data will confirm. :D

Get some thicker oil in as well. You know the one...

Seals in the inlet cam, OCV solenoids or the blockage of the oil feed lines is the question I seek to answer with tonight's logging :-)

edit:

proposed schedule of logs:
Parameters: revs, speed, L&R VVT angle, L&R OCV duty (optional)
warmup
induce 1400rpm vibration
cruise at 100kph @ 6th, 5th, 4th gears.

Any suggestions?

I'm going with Mick's diagnosis and am buying the part he's recommended. He told me he's taken this whole thing apart and identified exactly what's wrong and it aint the solenoids etc.

The guy genuinely knows his stuff from what I've seen so I'm going with his recommendation.
