Most accesible hose to plumb boost guage?

Postby Boxer » Tue Jan 22, 2008 9:15 pm

OK so this is a bit surprising seeng as I haven't bothered to tinker with this car (too old these days) Last Subaru I plumbed a boost guage to was an 02 STi WRX and it had a nice big alloy intake manifold with easy to get at hoses after the throttle body.

Now I take off the plastic cover and whats this PLASTIC intake manifold thingy? And begin drive by wire where the F^%k is the throttle body? its all hidden under the manifold tubes. BUggered if I can see a simple hose to T off that is definatley after the throttle body. There is one at the front of the motor behind the alternator with a check vale in series, but I am not sure if it comes off before or after the throttle. The only other one is the fuel regulator line that is definatley after the throttle as it is connected to Cyl 4's intake tube, BUT I dont like Teeing off a critical component like the fuel reg

Ideas?

Haha - I knew once I saw the pic when I uploaded it that I was gonna cop it! - its Sunscreen mmmkay! :p

Actually install is not complete - but wanted to illustrate where the vacuum hose was plumbed to - it runs to a check valve just behind the alternator you can see in main engine bay pic - then routes under the intake manifold and over to the strut tower where the sensor is temporarily located.

I plan to purchase a longer piece of hose and locate the boost sensor on the firewall out of the way and much neater.

The only exisitng hole through the firewall that I could actually access from inside the cabin was the one in the pic just behind the clutch fluid reservoir (this was after I had pulled the entire glove compartment out and partially removed the aircon system only to find I could not access the grommets from inside :(

The Defi controller fits nicely in the top compartment of the glove box and now to finish the inside I need to source an a pillar mount that accepts 60mm guages - any ideas out there??

Oh and the Nokia display - thats my bluetooth car kit - nice colour LCD display (set it to red to match the guages) which shows incoming caller ID and full phone book functionality (CK-15W) There is a little jog-shuttle controller to operate it and I mounted it right next to the SI drive wheel in the centre console

Is it difficult to use when stashed in the glove box like that?

Are there any issues with the pillar mount & the curtain airbags?

One alternative might be to locate it in the cubby hole, if that casopolis mob make a RHD version :)

Whhaaaa you crack me up at least you didn't disappoint I was timing you though and you are a bit slow these days At least mine doesnt have pink Frangipani number plates :)

And no I dont even use half the functions on the controller - only used for setting alarms, looking at peak readings and recording (if you get so inclined) Number of times I've used that would be less than 5

Phil,

Thanks will contact the Phatman.

Dont the curtain airbags deploy from the roof lining and not the pillars?
