Down on power?

hey..

I went for a long (400k) country drive on monday and as i was getting home i noticed the car felt down on power...

i first noticed when the cruise control was struggling to get up a hill at 100 and the RPM was jumping around between 2900 and 3000.. like it would try get past 3000 and then couldnt..

if i disengaged the cruise and hoofed it manually, it had no problem..

later at a set of lights i gave it some to see how it accelerated to 100... maybe it was because i was cruising at 140 for most of the day.. but it felt slower...

the next two days i've been giving it a big of a belting to see how it feels, and in my head it does feel down on power a little..

i recorded this on the way to work this morning... sorry for the appalling camera work.. i was driving.. obviously..

to me it feels like the RPM is rising too slowly in 1st... dunno maybe it's in my head.. but does this look slower than a 2.5 GT auto should be??

if so, opinions on what could be causing it..

cheers

Doesn't seem slow to me...

Wish manuals had the little number that shows you what gear you're in :(

Maybe a tad slow - I couldn't see past the bad auto focus was that S or S#? (Looked like S?) Were you booting it or just driving "normally"? (in which case slow/fast is very subjective)

Have you had it tuned? Shift from 1st to 2nd is heaps smoother than in mine!

Daniel, you disappoint me. If you don't know what gear you are in with a manual box.......

Haha don't worry I do! Would just be handy, I find myself cruising in 4th every now and again when I'm not paying attention... You can't really tell what gear you're in from the corner of your eye with the short shifter.

That was S#, flat out foot to the floor...

Haven't has it tuned.. Power wise the car is stock.. Just a pair of rear mufflers...

Maybe it's in my head.. Feels like it's more laggy down low... Dunno

Will get a tune soon anyway so hopefully that will solve any issues, real or imagined

Interesting.... any suggestions on what would be causing it?

The turbo isn't making any strange noises... just feels... slow..

Certainly slower than it was...

I was thinking possibly partially collapsed muffler or cat?? Had it on a previous audi... felt similar but worse..

It's almost like it's stuck in I mode..

Any suggestions??

No mechanic, but the ECU may have learnt something on your long drive. Keep flogging it and it may learn its way back to where it was (timing etc). Or you could reset the ECU and let it start from scratch. Worth a shot. :)

Tank full of sub par fuel on the long trip?

It was premium... maybe a bad batch..

If it was bad fuel, the computer would reward the timing automatically wouldn't it?? If it was knocking..

In terms of computer reset... what's the easiest way?

I'm gonna put in a tank of 98 tomorrow and see if that helps..

Any other possibilities? Fuel pump on it's way out?

USE BP 98 ONLY IN WA - CALTEX AND SHELL ARE CRAP AT THE MOMENT.

Yeah, I normally use BP 95 or 98.. got Caltex the day of the drive...the site was having some work done... all the 98 pumps were down and so were half the 95s.. I just got a tank of 95... maybe the site work fucked with something.. dunno... a nice healthy tank of 98 should clear that up...
