Whats the best Blow Off Vlave

Postby deadlegs » Mon Sep 03, 2012 8:20 pm

Hi guys.

As the title suggests, I'm after a new blow off valve to go with very soon to be completed mods. Just wondering what you all think is a good one to get. I see 'turbosmart' and 'gfb' getting a few mentions but I still don't know what sort to go with. I'm after one that is quiet and will preferably fit under the engine cover with little to no cutting.

Thanks in advance. I appreciate your help. :)

Gfb one fits under the engine cover without any modifications, can also be set to run 100% recirc

If you don't want to cut your engine cover the Turbosmart Kompact is your best bet.

This one.

i dont know to much about BVs but when you say 100% recirc obviously your referring to where the pressure is going to...

but when a BV is 100% recirc would the noise be somewhat similar to the stock BV??

No.
Aftermarket BOV's generally flow much more air and faster than stock ones so you get much more sound.

I had a GFB Mach1 on my legacy, fully plumbed back and it was LOUD.
but having a nice big free-flowing intake and a big pod filter also helps amplify the noise. but it's legal

Yes you can have quietER ones by having them fully plumbed back, but none of them will be as quiet as the stock BOV.

220 at the treads is pretty serious on 98. I have a turbosmart thing on mine and it isn't too loud, compared to other parts of the car anyhow.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

quote from MSR's facebook about the plastic BOV's...

scroll down on his page (8 Aug)...very interesting

08 + WRX and GT owners ....Today tuning a 7000km old 2011 wrx chasing what should have gone 200 odd, was struggling to make 185, factory BOV was changed and voom, 20kw more and 2psi, std plastic BOV's are crap and i would suggest upgrading, but DONT fit without tuning to check as everything changes!

Thats why I posted in the first place. Michael at MSR is doing a tune and exhaust and intake for me in 2 weeks and he suggested i get a blow off valve for that very reason.
