MSR tune / advice.

Hi guys I got a quote for a tune from MSR and have some noob questions
email is as follows:

"Tune is 900, dump pipe with race cat is 900 fitted, will bolt to your cat
back.

TMIC will get few KW, not a lot, better off with silicon intake pipe, this
will get you heaps of torque from 2800rpm, and 175-180kw top end.

Silicon pipe is 400 fitted, from turbo to air box."

What I would like to know:
What is the price of these pipes to buy alone?
What do they look like? Can someone post a photo please?
Are they hard to install?
Where can I get one?

Just dump pipe and intake pipe for 180 is a bit rich.
Depends on the dyno I guess.

Also, I wouldn't discount the intercooler. And also a high flow air filter is a good add on for little cost.

There are heaps of pics and talk about the intake pipe around. It is the pipe that your intake connects to at about the edge of the engine cover. It had heaps of little pipes coming out.

They are apparently annoying and time consuming to fit.

For price search the webs. Avo, Perrin and other make them. The pipe is a few hundred so that is probably a good fitted price considering the fiddly install.

S900 is about the going rate for a tune in NSW.

$900 for a fitted dump is about normal. I think MSR use Varex or Hitech. I'd inquire on the brand and perhaps check prices. I prefer the AVO for a few reasons but they all do the job pretty well.

The Perrin silicon inlet pipe is about $300 and would factor about an hour for fitting. The SFB(short fat bit) is normally another $100 or thereabouts. Check if that's included in the price which would make $400 excellent value. Both will help turbo spool.

I'd also consider the hi flow panel filter, Apexi or HKS, both non oil. And also a 3 port boost solenoid, a Pierburg/Prodrive from Prospeed, on special at the moment.

With regards the TMIC, I'd consider it if boost is being increased, as the OEM plastic end tanks can leak after a while. Otherwise stock should be fine.

175-180kws is a reasonable expectation on the MSR dyno. He's also very good with producing a good driveable street car with nice DBW settings and part throttle response etc.

All links etc are just examples and you may be able to negotiate better prices.

People talk about the K&N getting scmoootz on your AFM, but it rarely seems to happen. Just clean your AFM when you clean you filter.
As others have said, the silicon inlet is a bitch to install, not impossible, but a bitch. The intercooler isn't too hard to install. Dump pipe is a bit time consuming but not overly hard, but it helps if you have a hoist for instance.
My advice, buy a second hand top mount off these forums, and get your dump and inlet fitted. IMHO dump, inlet and TMIC + tune would net you 170-175 at the treads. Which is plenty of shove.
I will admit to having only skimmed over Bass_straightener's post, it prolly has better advice than mine by the way. EDIT: yep, what he said.

The reason I went for the AVO dump is it already has the bung for a wideband O2 sensor, is stainless and has a flex joint. The cat is also CARB approved which would be indicative of a reasonable quality metal cat.

Also the cast collector of the AVO helps maintain EGT which aids in clearance speeds.

Again some of these things are marginal but may help you make a decision.

Will there be any issues fitting this to my 07 man wagz

If I can save 400 at least I may..... May be still in the good books with the mrs. Ill find out when I try and throw the leg over...

Is it a requirement to have the O2 sensor? I'm assuming that's for exhaust temp gauge?

All aftermarket dumps have at least one bung for the factory rear O2 sensor.

The AVO also has a second bung in the collector for installation of a wideband O2 sensor. Particularly useful for tuning or monitoring how rich or lean your car is running in open loop fuelling given too lean a mixture is extremely detrimental to quite a few engine components.

EGT is exhaust gas temperature.

He has said that the down pipe is to suit manual cars. Arnt the dumps only manual or auto? his car is auto.
Also after looking at the dump pipe bellhousing I can't see that is made to fit the standard turbo vf46? However at the bottom of the page says it will fit standard turbos

Cast outlet should fit the VF46 as I have a VF52 and it bolted straight on and was previously bolted up to my VF46. The dump then bolts on to it.

Not sure if there is a difference between auto and manual dumps so can't help with that query.

If the down doesn't fit I can get one made up for next to nothing. Just easier to get a whole complete kit rather than waiting for it to get made.

mick will use pro speed inlet with Short fat bit($250ish), its a bitch to fit....it takes a while to fit..so $400 is the norm

mick will use x-force with there 100cel cat, including fitment & prob dump splitter..would be $900

I've seen libertys (vf46) at micks range from 175-187kw...pending on the heaps of things...torque is what you want

My first MSR tune was 177kw with inlet pipe & really crappy arse dump...

Sweet so I'd be on the money. With 175-180

I'm trying to cut the cost down a bit but getting a 2nd hand dump etc but I'm more than happy to pay $1300 for the pipe and tune but at this stage. Tune will be at least 6 months away. If I'm lucky Santa may Pay for the tune.

The dump pipe from an 05 Gt will not fit your car Craig

The prefacelift (late 03 to 06) Gt ran a twin scroll turbo which has a different flange to the vf46

I personally wouldn't bother with an intake pipe unless you're changing turbo

K&n or hks panel filter will be fine for what you're chasing

I'd rather spend that money on a decent second hand intercooler
