Sorry if this has been thrashed out before. I am a noob to upgrading the turbo.
I have an 07 GTB with a turbo back and ECU flash.

I like the torque of the small standard turbo at low revs. It makes peak torque at 2300 revs with a turbo back exhaust according to the dyno. However it seems to run out of puff after you get higher in the revs. Now I don't have much opportunity to rev the nuts off the motor, so I would like to keep the low down responsiveness but also have something further up the rev range.

Is there any magical turbo that is good for both? a tuned VF52? 200kw ATW is all I am after...

I always liked 2.5's with a VF43. Stock 07 sti turbo. Pulls hard at all rpm and holds torque to redline. 210-215kw atw is roughly its game.

But changing turbos for minimal gain is an expensive exercise.

I have a VF52 installed and has all the benefits of a stock turbo with a little bit more.

At about $1100 delivered it's not too expensive a mod as a dump pipe seems to be that much as does an aftermarket intercooler.

Combined with a 3 port and an intake upgrade of some sort should you get some nice gains.

Can you at least share where you get the $1,100 delivered price? I only ask because try as I might all I can find is prices from the US that are definitely not as cheap as $1,100

The exact price of my VF52 with the Subaru gasket kit was $1176AUS including delivery. Can't remember what the exchange rate was that day but I remember it was a little high as it could have been $30 less if I waited a couple of days.

When dealing with Celtic I emailed direct requesting a quote.

The price was slightly less than the listing in their ebay store etc.

Is there any point in upgrading the intercooler, up pipe, headers, fuel pump, on the standard turbo? I realise that there would be much bigger gains with a bigger turbo, but I am just curious if there would be much difference on the stock one...

Intercooler yes, up pipe, not really unless you mean the dump pipe, headers would produce some gains too, fuel pump isn't really necessary on the stock turbo unless you are tuning for E85.

The most gains to be had on the stock turbo will come from upgrading your full turbo back exhaust, getting a larger top mount intercooler and tuning it. Everything else will produce gains but nothing monumental and you will always be limited by the stock turbo

The vf52 thing that everyone rants about has a nice looking curve, and 1100 bucks and bolting on is chump change. I think that is your answer.
Ps, a daily driver that can trap 105 odd mph is noticeably quicker than other traffic.
